BTW have you got any 'Ballys'? Ireland and the Isle of Man are full of Ballys.

I would imagine our "bal" as in Balmoral is the same as bally?
 
Not sure how Mick couldn't work that out himself, but it just goes to show you, some people are really thick.

Not really,ball,bally etc derives from baile which can mean town,town of or townland but can be regional but not sure if Balmoral applies
 
My favourite is Ballabeg. I want to go around and tip-ex the 'a' out of the middle of the road signs.
