BBC now saying Remy clause has been activated by Arsenal. If so, then it shoots down the whole 'no striker this summer' thing Wenger has been saying in the last week or so.
Six minutes later, this: Chelsea favourites to sign QPR's Loic Remy as Arsenal withdraw their interest in the France striker
According to Ornstein Arsenal have ended their interest in Remy and are not close to any other signings
We're short on strikers, 1 short on a defender, 1 short in central midfield (Diaby is not an option).
Wayne Veysey may not be the most reliable but he is saying that we're still hope of getting Carvalho after increasing our bid to £21.3m, we're in a 50-50 battle with Chelski for Remy and still looking to either Winston Reid or Toby Alderwiereld of At Madrid
We're basically making bids for half the world's football players if you believe all the websites trying to get clicks. The truth is probably exactly what Ornstein said. That we're not close to anyone. And Wenger will say "the deals just weren't there".
Media is full of half truths and that's with proper news, just imagine what kind of lies they peddle with sports. Of Wenger said he isn't in for striker then what are we suppose to believe, the papers that link us with any walking man that can kick a ball or the manager of our club?
It is also interesting that Wenger said that you try and keep your transfer negotiations as secret as possible
He said pretty clearly that he has enough striking options available in a very recent press conference. So im taking the bosses word. Unless of course he is meaning something different in order to mislead. But he generally sticks to what he says.
I was more refering to buying a defender/midfielder rather than a forward.I agree that rightly or wrongly that he's happy with his forward options.
Yeh people keep on talking about forwards when Wenger is happy. I do think we will get a defensive player, priority being a cb but we could get another versatile player that can play both cb and dm.
While I try not to rely on YouTube highlight reels, they can at least be a decent way to determine the physical "type" of a player. Carvalho looks like the type of player we're missing. Tall, strong defensive midfielder who is still decently mobile.
Remember that during the transfer window there are not only clubs looking to buy players, there are plenty of clubs looking to sell players, so as AW says you don't play your cards early and wait for the desperate clubs who need to offload players to play their hand. I fully expect us to pull something out tomorrow
I'm calling it now ... we're going to sign a backup defender, and nobody else. If I'm wrong, I'll happily eat my words ... but I'm calling it.
