Me neither. We're doing what we've done for the last few years, Cortese was the master at playing hard ball on transfers and Les has clearly continued on with that method. Just because we're not going to immediately pay what other clubs want for their players doesn't mean we're not going to pay big transfer fees.
What £10M....are you serious....this deal could of been wrapped up weeks ago. And before you mention Celtic CL, not buying it. Celtic are the ones who have played hard ball as I said they would 2 weeks ago.
I reckon we could sign Lionel Messi and some fans wouldn't be happy: "we wasted our whole budget on one player".![]()
I think it's been pretty clear for a while that we've had this deal ready to go, but Celtic wanted to wait for their UCL games to clear and Gordon to get match fitness.

Exactly, they've been calling the shots, price and timing.
We're paying a lot of money for a keeper while our 1st choice is more than adequate. Would be better spent on a CB and another forward where we are seriously lacking quality and numbers.

I wonder how we reflect on that now, with few days left til the new season? £10 million on Fraser isn't too bad, but so many more areas need addressing now. Cutting it close indeed here lads. you need players and quick!Sorry, your first choice keeper is utter garbage. I know what I like in goalkeepers, because I played in goal myself. Artur is one of the worst in the league, you defo needed bolstering in this department. As a Newcastle fan, I can tell you a few things about Fraser.
1. we've had endless "should we have sold Krul and kept Forster" debates on our board, and Forster-sympathisers always lose. Krul's not a world-class goalkeeper, by any stretch, but he's level with Forster in probably ever respect except catching crosses. Krul is one of the best in the world at it when he's fully fit. Forster is a useful goalie, but the consensus is we made the right choice in letting him go.
2. we still think he's a talent, but occasionally a bit ungainly and slow to be a great of the future. £10 million for him seems a bit pricey indeed, but if he stays at Southampton for many years, it's worth it, and if he becomes a regular international, he could be sold for double that in future.
3. he's very professional, which is not something Southampton should take for granted, considering the behaviour of recent and current players (before some hothead rants at me about this. Osvaldo, Lallana, Schneiderlin etc).
Wish him the best at your club
Last post I made on this forum, I noted the comparisons between our owner's strategies, to mixed response. One chap from here even suggested that you were certain to spend £120 millionI wonder how we reflect on that now, with few days left til the new season? £10 million on Fraser isn't too bad, but so many more areas need addressing now. Yeah, we kept the 4th most clean sheets last season. He's a really **** keeper. The selling club generally gets that luxury. I'd imagine that the timing of some of our outgoing players was decided by us, as well.
