Blackmore said one of the reasons the fee is as high as £10m is due to a sell-on fee owed to Newcastle.
I'm with you there. 10M is a high fee for a goalkeeper (Arsenal signed Ospinna, Columbian international keeper, for 3M) and while I don't mind signing Forster, it would madden me if a large chunk of our transfer budget went on signing a new keeper when there are other pressing needs to solve. But if we strengthen in other areas as well, then it's ok.
Seriously, do you people actually watch Saints? Have you seen our backup keepers? One is as old as the hills, and the other one can't catch.
Just because we buy a gk doesn't mean we won't get another foward or winger. It's not like we can only deal with buying one player at a time.
Yeah, so long as Artur stays - keep Kelvin around for morale and send Paulo out to go and get some game time in L1 or something. Worked for Bart at Notts County.
I reckon we could sign Lionel Messi and some fans wouldn't be happy: "we wasted our whole budget on one player".
If times were more normal, I'd be a bit concerned with us chucking £10M at FF, but as it stands I'm glad Kat is burning some cash on a player, makes things seem a little more stable.
No Beefy, you don't understand, we haven't signed a CB or a winger yet, this clearly means that we're not going to!
Complete the deals as and when they're ready to be completed. Pointless putting Fraser on the back burner if he's all ready to get started.
We're paying a lot of money for a keeper while our 1st choice is more than adequate. Would be better spent on a CB and another forward where we are seriously lacking quality and numbers.
Once again - do people really think because we've spent £10m on Forster we won't pay sizeable fees for other players? I dont understand where people are getting that from. Tadić for £11m, Pellè for £8m, Forster for £10m. There are more like this to come.
Okay, I'm done with this thread now. I really do despair. "Ambition! Rarr! Why aren't we spending money?! Why so stingy?!" "Whoa! Don't go mad!" I would lay my house on this not being our last signing. That's that.
Me neither. We're doing what we've done for the last few years, Cortese was the master at playing hard ball on transfers and Les has clearly continued on with that method. Just because we're not going to immediately pay what other clubs want for their players doesn't mean we're not going to pay big transfer fees.
looks very much like we've decided building a slid squad of players costing around this much is a better policy long term than a couple of expensive gambles each season and neglecting the depth. one or two might turn out to be bargains and what we'd expect of a 15m or 20m player.
No one said that. I know my command of english language can be poor at times, but I think I was clear in my previous post. But we don't actually know how much of that is available. Preferably all of it, but only time will tell. You can always look at things from another perspective.
