Could be a good signing but £10m would put him in the big gamble territory. We pretty much declined the deal if the rumours around us being quoted £14m for an 'unproven reserve player' as per a Pardew interview early in the window were true, as people were saying the unnamed player was Rodwell.
 
Haway man, if we signed ****ing Messi you lot would say he was 'made to look good by Xavi'.

Wouldn't want it any other way, but I know, and you all know, this is a top signing, and a very surprising one I have to admit.

Assumed he'd be back to Everton or Southampton.

We might both be alright this season you know, when did that last happen? 190 ****ing 4?
 
Good signing, but based on the last two years of his career he's not a 10m pound player.

Sort of signing where a season long loan with future fee agreed would have been a better deal IMO. He's better than what they have though (when fit) so can only be classed as a decent signing for them.

I'd take him for us but he's not needed, midfield is our strongest area with Tiote, Colback, Sissoko, Anita, De Jong and maybe Cabella all competing for places in the middle of the pitch. Rodwell is better than some of those options but it would be a pointless improvement for us. He wouldn't be guaranteed to start and the 10m would be much better spent on either a dominant CB or striker.
 
Joking aside though, £10m for a young England midfielder ain't bad when you think of the cost of the likes Shaw and that Campbell fella.
 
Sunderland fans will be pleased with him, I'm sure he'll do well for them... BUT in our terms:

£10m for a Jack Rodwell that has been in obscurity for what 2 seasons, before you know what kind of job he's likely to do, just underlines the sense behind our transfer policy.
Yes we're critical of our own dealings (or lack of) normally but my god, you can see why they ignore the English market eh?

We would have had him ONLY on the basis of a loan, right before the window slammed.

In fact the absurd, unwarranted prices for English lads is frankly the motive behind buying these two from Forest isn't it? Grab them young at reduced rate by loaning them back and in a few years Mike will quadruple (and the rest) his money!

But I'm sorry, it'll rile them and peeing on the fireworks is not the intention, £10m for Rodwell only serves to highlight how cheeky NUFC were nabbing Colback for nowt.
When you start considering the likes of Sissoko, Cabaye and now Siem De Jong for fractions of the cost, proven CL and World Cup players, I'm almost amazed by this regime's efficiency at times.

How are they able to get this stuff, especially in this window, so right when normally they couldn't run a bath? It suggests to me the normal idiocy can ONLY be by design...

Very good player. Not sure where he is at now as hard to tell, he never got close to playing in City's midfield but no shame in that. The cold hard reality is the lad is brittle as f**. It doesn't matter if its long lay offs or short lay offs, he is injured a lot. He has had loads of problems at both clubs. If he stays fit he'll be a good signing. If he doesn't, they've spent a lot of their budget on someone who won't add much. We shall see. I wish him all the worst of course :biggrin:

For us no, not the right player. We need a ball player who can control the pace of the game - Grenier preferably.

EDIT: And a left back, centre half and striker - howay Mike get ya cheque book out
