http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28649646 Sunderland look set to sign Manchester City midfielder, Jack Rodwell. The fee is believed to be in the region of £10m. He would play well with regular first-team football and is an England international. At only 23 years old, should we be looking at him?
A good player, but I think we're pretty well stocked in centre mid for now. Tiote, Anita, Sissoko, SDJ, Colback, Abeid, Bigi etc. Would be a top signing but we would be better of spending 10M on a top CB or spread over a few players to get some real depth of quality rather than one player in a position where we have plenty Good signing for the mackems though, seems they're finally getting their act together in the transfer market
If he stays fit this is a very very good signing for them. Big 'if' though with his record. Its a lot of money taking into account his injury record, but no doubting his talent. As for us going for him, like ACS says we're already heavily stocked in that department and agree that there are more pressing needs for that sort of money to be spent on. Can't imagine his wages will be cheap either after being at City.
Not really, had a bad hamstring injury in the 12/13 season, and had a long lay off in the 10/11 season, apart from that he's never been out longer than a month.
I have the feeling that Rodwell just needs regular playing time, then can get back to somewhere near the form that saw him capped for England. I don't want the monkey-mackems getting their grubby mitts on a decent English player!
Grenier is the only MF I would take at this stage and even then it would be a luxury. A top cf and cb are the priorities.
Injury prone and to date has never fulfilled his early promise. Like many English youngsters he got too much too soon and Man City was never the right move. Cut the Crap - A No from me.
Not for £10M , what has he done to justify this price tag ? Dont think he will fulfil his early potential
And how many times has he been out for 2 or 3 weeks? I know some of his appearance stats are skewed cos of signing for Man City, but he's made 100 league starts in 7 seasons. Don't get me wrong, he's a decent player and like I said if he does stay fit I think he'd be a great signing, if a little on the pricey side.
Think this could turn out to be a good piece of business by the mackems. Always looked classy when playing for Everton. I agree that Citeh was obviously the wrong move for his career, but regular playing time could see him recapture his early form. Then SAFC either double their money in a transfer or have a midfield lynchpin for several seasons. Still think £10m is a tad steep mind.
Looking at his injury history about once a season, Don't get me wrong mate, I see your point but you said Big if. Wes Brown plays for us, now that's a big if player, different relm of injury prone by my reckoning. Plus he only went from developing youngster to first team regular the the season before Everton sold him so I think it's unfair to hold his first 4 years as a pro against him as some kind of injury lay off, you don't get many playing week in week out age 16/17/18
We'll just let SAFC develop him more before we sign him. After all they are our feeder club now On a serious note, he's got a bad injury record by all accounts so there is a risk right there.
