IN TALKS TODAY Sunderland AFC News And Banter Page shared a link. 32 minutes ago Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell will hold talks with Sunderland on Monday over a permanent switch to the Stadium of Light. Despite City’s lack of homegrown talent, Rodwell can leave the Etihad Stadium this summer after failing to make an impact on Manuel Pellegrini. Sunderland are in advanced talks with City over a proposed move for the 23-year-old midfielder. City value Rodwell, who signed from Everton in the summer of 2012, at £10million. And Rodwell is due in the north-east later on Monday to thrash out personal terms to join Gus Poyet’s side. Despite developing a reputation as one of England’s most promising midfielders, Rodwell’s career has stagnated at City. He played just 10 games for City last season as he found first-team football hard to come by at the Etihad. As well as this Rodwell has only started seven Premier League games for the champions since his move two years ago. But Poyet believes he can put Rodwell’s career back on track next season. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-set-hold-talks-Sunderland-possible-move.html

Michael Graham ‏@Capt_Fishpaste 1m If stories are true, I'd be happy with #safc paying £10m for Rodwell. Club need to challenge themselves and JR to make him a £20m player. Not sure on £10m for a guy who hasnt played much mind
maybe he has decided after getting not very far this summer that he may need to spend a little bit more to get the club going in the direction he wants
I'm well up for this despite his injury issues. We need a midfielder who can drive the team forward, I could see Rodwell & Catts forming a great link CM, Catts passing improved 10 fold last season under Gus, Rodwell hs that ability to burst forward. Many young lads have injuries and grow out of them, so I'll stick my hopes on that (if he signs...).
For 10m it's definitely a risk with his injury record. He's barely played the last few years as well.
if he can pass his medical its all im worried about! think he would be class player and 10m if the club are willing to pay then why should we be bothered, youve all been saying you want ellis to put his hand in his pocket. Once he is doing your complaining about it, if you can keep rodwell fit hes more than a 10m player i know we could be taking a risk but im sure the club know that and took that into consideration and in my eyes either have a structered pay deal since his history and a very tough medical examination he has to pass
Wes brown was injury prone gus and his medics did an amazing job keeping him fit last season maybe he thinks he can do the same with rodwell keep him fit we would have a great player on our hands and english home grown
Will only believe any transfers when new player is in a shirt at AoL. Too many false dawns the past few weeks
If he signs and stays fit and you get regular football out of him, if he rediscovers his strength and form that he showed for Everton, you're looking at a £30m player. It's a lot of ifs and it's a risk but sometimes risks pay off handsomely. No matter how desperate you are for new players, there's no way Poyet's gonna fetch a cripple on board just to appease fan pressure, he must be looking in good nick for that kind of bunse.
To be fair alot of the time he missed games for City was down to the amount of talent that they brought in over him. If he'd stayed at Everton i'm sure he'd average more then 16 games a season.
Totally agree mate. If we can get the Rodwell that was bosssing games for Everton as a kid, the difference he would make would be phenomenal, freeing up AJ, Giacc as well. This is one of those when it's not just the (potential) ability of the player, but the definition and shape it would create accross the midfield 5. Yeah, he's had injuries, but it's a calculated gamble as he'd be a superb fit if we keep him in shape. Am I right in thinking that he was actually fit for most of last season, and just out of favour?
