Jack Rodwell's representative has revealed the player was won over Sunderland's ambition after sealing his move to the Stadium of Light from Manchester City.

England international Rodwell has signed a five-year deal at Sunderland for a fee in the region of £10million.

A number at clubs at home and abroad expressed an interest in signing Rodwell, but Sunderland's desire to bring the former Everton man to Wearside ensured they won the race for the talented midfielder's signature.

Rodwell's representative, Mick McGuire of James Grant Group, says the 23-year-old is excited by the challenge ahead at Sunderland and that their hard determination to lure Rodwell to the club was the deciding factor in his decision to snub other interest to move to Sunderland.

"Jack is really excited by the move and the challenge ahead at Sunderland," McGuire told Sky Sports.

"He spoke to the chairman a couple of times and he was very impressed by his ambition and his long-term plans for Sunderland.

"Jack was also impressed by the hard work and determination of the manager Gus Poyet and sporting director Lee Congerton to make the move happen and Jack can't wait now to get started now ahead of the new season."

Find the 'spoke to the chairman and his long term ambition' bit fascinating.

    Sounds great

We've had this ambition talk for years now, and this is now 3 seasons in a row I have had a really good feeling we can push on, hopefully this is the year we finally do
