They're both pretty versatile anyway, so you could play them on either wing, or even as a second striker/in the hole (mata is better at the latter than downing)
Click here for the article So, he has been told he can leave. He wants to play in a more competitive league, Europe doesn't seem to be mentioned. Liverpool and Tottenham are believed to be interested. His been told he can leave due to his significant contribution, no sulky transfer request despite being relegated. I reckon he could prove great value for £5.3million and help us increase revenue in Asia etc.
Is it just me or does it seem frustrating we missed out on some pretty good players during Rafa's tenure because we lacked 2 odd millions yet now indications are we may splash millions on Players like Downing.
That is not as bad as the media claiming Wenger is in a bidding war. How lazy can Juornos get. Seriously Wenger in a bidding war that is like claiming Slur Alex has been sober for 20 years
If you mean frustrating that we're criticised for paying "over the odds" now then yes. But we haven't splashed out on Downing yet. I have no idea who "players like Downing" refers to. This summer is looking like a spending wave, possibly because there was so little last summer. So prices are going to be higher all round anyway. In other news, Reina has spoken of David De Gea to Utd and said, "I very much welcome this news because David is a great keeper." Translation: "I very much welcome this news because David is not as good as me or Edwin so Utd have been weakened." Also, it seems we're in for Diego. He'd better pull his socks up if he does come to us.
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/media-watch/villarreal-beat-liverpool-to-zapata Really rate this guy and hope we do sign him.
I knew nothing about him or his reputation 'til people on here filled me in. Presumably ( if we are really interested and it's not just the papers ) Kenny is aware of his bad boy image and thinks he can sort him out. Perhaps he'll just nut him.
Clubs releasing some good players..... first Diego Ribas, now ......... Schalke are set to release former Rosenboif midfielder Anthony Annan, leaving the Ghana international in search of a new club.
He bought Suarez and Carroll and they weren't having the bad time Diego seems to be having at Wolfsburg. The club is a happy place these days so I doubt we'll see any sulks for a good while.
I think the problem Diego has is that he feels he's better than the clubs he's been at previously, I'd tend to agree with him as well. As long as Kenny makes it clear he won't tolerate any bad behavior it should work out fine.
I reckon Kenny can handle players that have not been saints previously. He can as they say ''Tame the beast''.Suarez and Carroll weren't exactly angels when they signed.Suarez was over exuberant and Big Andy was misunderstood,Kenny has worked on both and got the best out of the two of them,In Andy Carrolls case the best is yet to come.
It'd be exciting if we did sign Diego and Mata, I'd reckon them two signings will really worry the likes of United and Chelsea.
All the Liverpool related transfer news from BBC site. Sunderland have agreed a £13m fee with Ipswich for striker Connor Wickham. Liverpool are still interested but must match Sunderland's bid. Liverpool are giving up on signing Jose Enrique from Newcastle and will instead look to experienced Manchester City left-back Wayne Bridge, who was on loan at West Ham last season. Liverpool are ready to send youngsters Jonjo Shelvey and Stephen Darby to Blackpool as part of a deal to land midfielder Charlie Adam. Aston Villa are expecting midfielder Stewart Downing to hand in a transfer request but are determined to hold out for their £20m valuation of the player, who is wanted by Liverpool. Wolfsburg playmaker Diego has revealed he is in talks over a "dream" move to the Premier League. The 26-year-old is thought to be one of Liverpool's top summer targets.
Liverpool should be able to match Sunderland's Wickham offer. The Wayne Bridge rumour is laughable. Don't mind the Adam deal, just hope we don't pay too much for him and I hope he isn't our top target. Aston Villa need to lower the price for Downing, his at his peak and even now he isn't great, decent I'd say. Diego would be a quality addition to any team and to all those who said they wouldn't want him they have need to stop judging him as we don't really know the full story about the Wolfsburg fall-out. --- In other news, spanish newspaper SuperDeporte claims Mata isn't desperate to leave the club and he could well stay at Valencia beyond this summer. Teams and players need to stop pretending they are loyal and will stay at their club when a move to another team is imminent. I'm not saying the above is entirely true, but with the news that five European clubs have met Neymar's release clause of £40.1million and Santos claiming they could keep hold of the Brazillian its kind of silly really.
