That's not the full story though Cest, Defoe never wanted to leave Spurs in the first place, he was basically told he was going, and the big contract at Pompey was Harry's doing, players aren't gonna say, 'that's a bit high'. The Charlton thing, iirc, they hadn't offered him pro terms, WHU did, and he signed, Charlton ball watching, i'm not saying he's blameless, but a young lad wants a contract, and WHU were a bigger club, with a glorious history of producing players, indeed, Rio, Lampard and Cole were shining examples of it at that very time. I'm not gonna defend Defoe to the hilt, as i agree with a lot of what you've said about him, but i'm sticking to my guns here, i feel he would have a bigger impact than Crouch at this time.
Lets sign mr tickle aswel then hes a nice guy.Don't care if defoe is a little **** he would be a little **** scoring 20+ goals a season for us and getting under the skin of other defences and not ours. All i read is how we need to replace bent, need a marquee signing,we play to much long ball football then theres a rumour about defoe and people dont want him cos we would lack height up front which would stop the long ball stuff,he's a player that would improve us no end better than bothroyd and dj campell imo sorry if i went on 1 there but i just can't understand why people wouldn't want a top top player. PEACE
Harry Redknapp admits he will have to offload a number of players before he can spend this summer. The Tottenham boss is working with one of the Premier League's biggest squads, meaning his hands are tied in the transfer market. He has been informed by the club's board that any moves for further fresh faces will need to be funded by sales. With Spurs looking to break back into the top four in 2011/12 and secure UEFA Champions League football once more, it is expected that they will look to bring in new recruits. There will, however, be plenty of movement towards the White Hart Lane exits before any arrivals are welcomed on board. Quiet Redknapp said: "There is nothing happening in the transfer market. "I need to sell four or five players to bring in funds. "The chairman has made it clear we need to move a few players before we can start doing any business. "I keep seeing us linked with this player and that, but unless we reduce our squad numbers we will stay quiet in the market." Hutton....and????????
What Defoe and "He Who Shall Not Be Mentioned By Name" on this forum (could call him the Scottish Winger like The Scottish Play, but he's not Scottish) have in common is that they would create huge amounts of unrest in the dressing room and both always be angling for what they consider to be a well deserved move to a BIG club. We should steer well clear of both.
I'd agree wholeheartedly about a Defoe of say 2 or 3 years ago when he genuinely WAS the best striker in England. However, to get him now would mean only thing. A massive last financial hurrah and pay day for a lad who is finished as a top striker, mentally as well a physically. We'd be buying a name only not the real deal. If he really were the Defoe of 2 or 3 years ago, Spurs wouldn't think of selling him in the first place and if they did consider it, much bigger and better clubs would be sniffing around him than ourselves. The fact is Defoe is not the player some of you think he is today and he will be a huge and very expensive flop. Its not that I dont mind players with attitude and I have said many times Bellamy (also of 2 years ago) and Barton would top my list of players I'd love to see here, so the facetious and sarcastic comments about signing Mr Tickle are not well received here. Its about getting players who want to be here. Defoe, even if he is for sale, will be a huge battle to get him to think about us as an alternative venue. The same goes for Crouch to be honest but I personally think Crouch would be a far better option for us as a club at this time. I'd sooner have Welbeck or Sturridge than Defoe.
The mr tickle comment was a joke sorry if i offended you that wasnt the plan.I would take defoe over crouch all day, 1 reason being that crouch turned us down for spurs in the first place or has that been forgotten he didn't want to come here 2 years ago so why should we bail him out when it's not going so well for him at spurs. Imo defoe just needs a fresh start and i for one would be willing to give him a chance
If we start steering clear of this type of player then we might aswel forget about being a top 6 club. I know they have there issues but that would be for Bruce to sort out and if he could then top 6 would be on.
i dont care what there attitudes are like if they can play good football and there better than what we have bring them in!!
Nee sweat matey. I prefer Crouch but in all honesty, neither will be coming so its a bit of a dead debate anyway. I think we'd have more chance with Pavlyuchenko anyway, as harbours no geographical grudges and would be used to the North Sea 'breeze' of a dark December afternoon. Of the 3, I'd be delighted if it were him who we were targeting after all.
Again whispers, Defoe will not come up here, he would be too far fom his comfort zone, fact is we are rock, and he is rap, he would have to live amongst the dark side, our nightlife wouldnt suit him, unlike Micky Gray,Quinnie and co, poppin into the Chesters for a game of pool and an ICL an a Guiness, happened, got a signed copy of A LOVE SUPREME. But Defoe wont come here.
Don't want Defoe. He doesn't seem to have blank patches; he has great droughts when he scores nowt. All very well if he's getting assists, but he doesn't really do that either. I just wouldn't be comfortable spending a lot on signing this guy...
