Wonder who the new target will be? Or do people think (as I know many, including myself hope) that there has in fact been no interest all this time and that we fully intend on keeping Hoops and RvW? Also, who would people like to see brought in the midfield and defence departments?
If they both stay it would show that they are willing to prove to us and themselves that last season was just a blip and they are talented goalscorers with a potential of getting 20 plus goals each at this level. I really hope that Wolfswinkel can fire himself back into the Dutch squad with performances this season and Hooper gets an England call up, one season doesn`t make them bad footballers and nothing would make me happier than to see them stick it to their critics. With the price tags of Championship strikers at a grossly inflated £10m plus it would be a nightmare to try and replace them and i doubt there is anyone available as good as what we have already on our books. IMO, both RvW and Hooper should be able to thrive in this new attacking approach and I certainly hope they do.
What new attacking approach? Have you seen how we are playing already? I haven't so actually have no idea how we pan to attack this season.
Probably referring to the attacking approach that Adams has promised and that Grabban alluded to as a reason for coming in his press conference after joining.
totally agree about out strikers but it looks increasingly as though either adams or the club are trying to force rvw out imo
If he is forced to leave/chooses to go, then I would imagine that he will be sold at a considerable loss. Such a shame when a lot of his lack of goals was as a result of CH's tactics and the reluctance of team mates to pass the ball to him. I accept that he missed a few sitters, but RvP and Torres have been known to do likewise!!!!
They do at least manage to stick a few sitters in now and again though, as well as some classy goals - RVP in particular. How do we know his failings were simply explained by the failings of others? He might just not be good enough at that level?
Quote - "to have more successes, you have to have more failures!!!" Personally, I would love him to stay and be given a chance to show what he can do - provided he is given the opportunity to do so by his team mates!!!!
The diffetence is, RvW got limited chances in front of goal. If we created half the number of chances Liverpool, United and Chelsea did per game, iv no doubt RvW would have put "a few sitters in now and again". We created naff all for him and I bet the reason he missed was because he was bloody suprised the ball had actually made it to him in the box! You want classy goals? You dont have to look much further than the one goal he did score last year. Great header, at a time when he had some confidence. ..before CH tore it out of him by playing sh*te tactics.
Sadly, it does look more and more like both RvW and Bassong will be leaving. First the number changes and now not being included in the squad for the Dereham game. Olsson's exclusion may be because of his shoulder. Wes and Pilks have been excluded because they are not back after RoI duties. On the other hand, Hooper and Redmond have been included, so that's positive at least.
You're surely joking? He's a professional footballer, if the reason for him missing the target is 'surprise' then I'd ship him back off to Holland on the next available flight!
IMO, there were a number of factors involved which I felt could be corrected this season. If he leaves, it'll be for a loan or a loss and the same may be true for Bassong.
I think pushing RvW out or him leaving is a lose-lose. We'll lose money and a quality player (Certainly at this level) and RvW's career has taken quite a set back. Surely the best thing for both parties would be to give him another year, let him have a go at lower quality defences in a more attacking team and see how it goes. If he still can't get the goals, then fair enough, we get rid. But he could bag 25 this season and help get us promoted and then get 15 or so in the Prem! I think the real issue last year was confidence. He clearly got worse the longer he went without that goal and the way Hughton insisted on playing him on his own up front with 2 wingers that don't like to cross meant he really had no chance. Hooper scored a few more but after that spree I can't remember him doing much either. Confidence and tactics were the big draw back last season, I can only see both those improving.
The idea of suprise was a bit of a joke but my point stands. If youre not getting chances and therefore not scoring, there is little chance of any confidence boost or of being sharpe when a chance does come your way. We really should be looking to keep him unless he WANTS to leave.
Don't you hate I'll informed rumour? Club call say that Arsenal are on the trail of John Ruddy after City made him available for 7M. Ruddy "wants to move on to further his England career". Where do they get off inventing such garbage?
Fingers xd that it is "garbage" Eadie! Whilst £7m is clearly too small a sum, the idea that Arsenal are after him is not beyond the realms of possibility. Good to see Adams saying that RvW, Pilks and Wes will feature against Braintree. Hope they do!
