Swans really wanted me, declares striker Striker Bafetimbi Gomis has revealed that it was Swansea Cityâs refusal to give up the hunt that persuaded him to leave France for a new life in Wales. The 28-year-old hit-man signed a four-year deal on a free-transfer for Lyon on Friday night to give manager Garry Monk a huge boost ahead of the new Barclays Premier League campaign. âIâve been really impressed speaking with the manager and the chairman over the last few days,ââ declared Gomis. âThey showed they really wanted me - and thatâs one of the main reasons I chose Swansea ahead of the other interested clubs. âTheyâve been trying for over a year to sign me. It didnât quite happen back then, but they kept trying and Iâm absolutely delighted to be here now. âAlthough Iâve been aware of Swansea for a number of seasons, Iâve been following them a lot closer since the interest first materialised last year. âItâs a proud club with strong philosophies. Although Gomis will have to wait for Bony to return from his World Cup exploits with the Ivory Coast to strike up a working relationship, the French international is excited about the prospect. âI do not see Wilfried Bony as competition, more of an association, because I know we can also play perfectly together,ââ added Gomis. âWe can benefit each other and that will be strong for the team.ââ It will be the first time that Gomis will play his football outside his native France after coming through the youth ranks at St Etienne to make a 13m euro move to Lyon in 2009. And having amassed 47 goals in his last two season, Gomis is relishing the opportunity to test himself in a league regarded as the best in the world. âI am looking forward to playing in the Premier League, especially as it is the first time I have played my football outside France,ââ he added. âI donât think I will have a problem settling in. Im not bashing Monk , just stating thr obvious , as for Jenkins , yes .. I am bashing him , he needs a good bashing to get his mind right . Past managers who couldnt get any money from Jenkins for players must be having a laugh at Jenkins paying 80,000 a week for gomis .

You are bashing, since he isnt on that a week. He has a chunk of signing on fee, performance related bonuses and is within our monthly wage structure. Get a grip. If you want to play that game add Bony's wages for his whole contract, bonuses and his transfer fee together and then tell me Laudrup wasnt backed. Lol If Gomis stays for 4 years he would still cost the same than we have paid for Wilf after 1 season, let alone paying out the rest of Bony's contract. IF we sold Gomis after 1 season, we wouldnt have to recoup the near £16 mill we have so far spent on Bony after 1 year. Some may think you dont have an agenda but the facts speak different Laters
Well I'm excited by this signing - at 28 he should be at the height of his powers and he has an eye for goal for sure. But when he says he doesn't see Bony as competition I just wonder how on earth we could play the two together as they are both out and our front men aren't they?
Bony is 26 going into the new season and has an extremely high sell on value this summer....likely to have a significant sell on value (maybe more even) next summer and even the summer after that we are likely to get a chunk back. Gomis is 29. We have him for 4 years. It makes no difference whatsoever whether he is paid weekly of half up front and the other half weekly. That's the bottom line.
Last time I checked he was 28 and you/others are comparing apples to pears by selectively choosing to value a player differently to suit their agendas. I dont see you using the same formula for Pablo or Ki or Jonjo which would also mean they cost circa £16 mill Agenda fits like a glove
He will be 29 by the time he kicks a ball and is signed up until he is 33....it is highly likely that we have put several million straight into his bank account and are paying him the rest £40-50k a week over 4 years. A striker when he is 30, 31 and 32 £40-50k a week. Pablo is 29 but his contract is up at the end of the season and is unlikely to be getting paid nearly as much. Ki is 25 and his contract is also up at the end of the season....he plays centre midfield and is also unlikely to be getting paid anywhere near as much. Jonjo is 22 (contracted for 3 more seasons), plays centre midfield, is unlikely to be getting paid anywhere near as much and has a decent sell on value...we are likely to get most/all of our money back on the deal....could even be profitable. Now, who is comparing apples and pears? Agenda? It's called being a fan and having an opinion fella. Most on here were against the Shelvey deal. I was one of the few who stated on the day he signed that it made sense....now he's cult and we could sell him for a profit this summer if we so wish.
You lease a sports car and they tell you it's going to cost you £500 a month for 3 years. You take a sharp intake of breath. The salesman then tells you "How about you pay £9000 up front and £250 a month?" Make you feel better about the deal does it?
Far from it If Ki and Pabs are on the rumoured £40k plus a week and bonuses, by the end of their contract they would cost much the same as Gomis Is it a risk? Sure, but just the same as paying £10 mill for a player and then wages, but thats the price you pay for strikers, let alone a French international with over 100 L1 goals. If he bags 15+ goals this year, it will seem very shrewd business when clubs come knocking next year...by which time we would only need to recoup a signing on fee and 1 years wages.
47 goals in two seasons is fantastic, couple that with him being on a free then that is a miracle and credit has to go to monk and jinx for selling the club to him that he wanted to join us and turn down other offers....It dont get better than that...
Dai on the potential Bony signing and his wages.... Dai on the day he signed.... Dai during the first month or 2 of the Prem season when Bony was getting fit and adjusting to the team and the league (expertly managed by Laudrup).... Dai on excessive wages in football.... .
I doubt very much we'd pick up as much money next year as we will have paid him up front and 1st year wages.........let's assume the total deal amounts to £80k a week (reasonable as his agent was touting £75 - 100k a week around and he reportedly received £75k offers). To fit into our wage structure we pay him £40k a week = £2.1m a year That's a shortfall over the 4 year contract of approx. £8.5m (the signing on fee is likely to be less than this however as having a lump sum paid into his bank account earns considerable interest). Let's say the lump some is £5-6m. Total we will have paid out after year 1 is likely to be £7-8m + goal bonuses ( a considerable figure also if we are to believe he will score enough to engineer a big money transfer at 30 years old!). Is a bigger club out there going to pay us £7-10m for a 30 year old centre forward? Or will they have moved on to the next hot talent? Even if somebody was interested for that sort of money, is he going to want to go if they offer him a more lucrative but shorter term deal? (bear in mind I've probably underestimated slightly the signing on fee we will pay as other clubs are likely to have offered him £75k a week + a signing on fee before he has chosen us and we will have had to have matched it or more likely, bettered it)
Depends if 3 of those seasons are in the Championship swimaway ...pretty tough wages if thats the case . Could happen to if Bony leaves . But lets look if Bony stays , would anyone here play Gomis ahead of Bony , Gomis would make a pretty expensive bench player .. I guess Monk could play them both at the same time , but you can get sacked for not playing the "Swansea way " with Jinx running the show .
