Ki and Pablo were both given 3 year contracts. £40k a week = £2.1m a year 3 years = £6.3m Transfer for both was around the £5-5.5m mark Total deal for both = £11-12m (and we could have sold them easily as they were both in their early to mid twenties at any point and very near got our money back. So I don't know how you conclude that they cost the same as Gomis who is a striker contracted for years 29-33 (for a striker that is considered past his peak). Also the nature of the deal is such that, personally, Gomis earns millions more than those 2 players as he was on a "free". This means he has less reason to be motivated. What happened to Jenkins' rally call of returning to the "Swansea way" and signing young, hungry players.....all that tosh of "getting away from how we do things"?
But with some exceptions you can't build a whole team on young, hungry players. It requires a balance of experience and youth if that doesn't sound too cliched.
