Ben
Not sure where your 'assist' stats come from - see above from a Norwich fan.
You're wrong about this one Ben, I think Snodgrass is a bit of a dick, but I'd rather he was playing for us than against us.
He gets goals, he gets assists, he winds other teams up, but most importantly, he's excellent at set pieces, an area where we are currently dire.
He's not worth £8m, but we're definitely a better team with him in it.
He's definitely a pain to play against.
He had 2 assists last season, 6 the previous.
He averages six goals a season, half from free kicks.
The stats site I was using differs from the PL site one says 2 crosses/game the other says 4/game. Either way it's not a lot for a winger.
I honestly don't think he's better than Brady, presuming Brady is fit.
As I've said I'm not unhappy he's here but think that after potentially spending £16m on two players we haven't actually improved the team.
How hasn't the team improved? Snodgrass is a better right winger than Elmo and Livermore is better than our other midfielders bar Huddlestone.
Thing is, Livermore is an improvement, because having see what he could do last season, we'd have been tasked with not only finding a replacement for him to work well with Thudd (who knows what that would've cost, both in transfer fees and not having somebody as good as Jake) but also having to play against him next season and hope his replacement was up to the job. Thankfully we've avoided that scenario.
As for Snodgrass, he's a great player with a good set piece ability on him; he might finally be the answer to our ****e corners. He's not the quickest, but he gets himself about and has a trick or two. I agree the price is a bit high, but that's what you have to pay these days for strength in depth. And I agree with OLM, better to have him on our side than to play against him again next season (maybe we should sign Emile Sinclair, just in case). Although what is it that makes him a **** exactly? The fact that he played for Leeds?
Lets stop acting like we've thrown money at tottenham for no reason. Forget Last season. At the start of this year we were Livermore-less. Now we have a whole Livermore to ourselves. He is a vast improvement on Quinn and we've got Snodgrass, who's a vast improvement on the plethora of players that we played out wide last year.
I admit we have overpaid, but sometimes you have to! I'm sure we'll have some more joy soon enough.
What has Snodgrass achieved for you to describe him as "class"
I disagree.
Livermore was in the side, he will be in the side. Therefore the side hasn't improved.
What evidence is there to suggest he's a better right winger than Elmo? Snodgrass isn't even right footed.
Livermore was already in the team & therefore him signing permanently hasn't improved the team.
£16m spent & the team hasn't improved.
This is from a Norwich supporter written after the season ended.
"I wouldn't criticise Snodgrass for the effort he put in, if spasmodically. But I totally agree with some of the comments here in that he has nothing in his locker to worry a defender. Totally predictable and as such makes life easy for his markers. Always tries to cut inside as he has no right foot, lacks pace and apart from one or two very good strikes most of his dead ball kicking has been poor, with balls under or over-hit or aimless."
Yes but he wasn't our player. You have to consider the possibility that he might not have signed for us this season and could be having a medical at Palace right now. The fact that he is now our player is surely an improvement on wondering if he'll sign permanently or worse, bringing in somebody who wasn't as good?
I didn't say it wasn't an improvement on wondering whether he'll sign. I said, quite correctly, that the team hasn't improved because he's signed. He's the same player in the same team he was in last year.
Robben isn't right footed but I'm fairly sure he's a better right winger than Elmo.
Livermore wasn't part of our squad and hasn't been since the FA cup final and therefore has improved our squad.
But with a full season of PL football under his belt, would he not be a better player now than he was 12 months ago?
What has Snodgrass achieved for you to describe him as "class"
I think you've confused yourself. You've used the fact that Snodgrass isn't right footed as a plus to Elmo. I'm pointing out Robben isn't right footed, yet he is better than Elmo.I think you've confused yourself.
If I'm to understand you correctly, because Robben isn't right footed yet a better right right winger than Elmo, Snodgrass must also be better. Great thinking. Try again, what evidence is there to suggest Snodgrass is a better right winger than Elmo?
Livermore was in our team throughout last season, he's now in it again, therefore the team hasn't improved. If you check we've not played many games since the cup final.
