copa america is going to be something we need to be careful of with suarez so getting in another top player top top is a must
Did you see the related news bit underneath the article? 'Juventus are now in a position to return to the very highest levels of the game after a significant cash injection, insists President Andrea Agnelli.' Clearly they have the money to buy him... You wonder why they didn't take up the option to buy him.
I hope he does come back, he did'nt look bad at all when he actually played, if we can keep him fit and providing he actually want's to play for us then I think he could do a job for us.
I think so too, if nobody in Italy want's Aqua then I can't see him going to any other country. Maybe Meireles is the one to go as he would be a lot easier to sell.
Gerrard, Aquilani, Henderson, Adam, Lucas, Spearing, possible Cole. Six and a half is still too many to be competing for those roles.
24th June 2011 continued. 3) After the Korea leg of our pre-season tour of Asia was cancelled, Liverpool have decided to go back to Singapore after a highly successful visit in 2009. This will form part of our Asia tour.
As Singapore is only a training session that will mean that we only have 3 full pre-season matches. Is that enough if we are successful iwth our summer strengthening?
We have got a friendly against Valencia as well. So that's 4 pre-season games. I trust Kenny to get it right regarding pre-season though.
Cheers for filling in guys. I think it would be nice to see Aquilani back for a second chance, he deserves it. But I only want him at Liverpool if its what he really wants and will give his all to the team cause. Fortunately I see Aqua as a great professional. If I had to choose between Aqua and Meireles I would choose Meireles though. I think he is better suited to the premier league and has a much better fitness record.
Wasn't Meireles linked with Juve, too? I'm not sure that's a fair comparison. Take Aqua's long spell when he first came out of the equation and there isn't really an equation, though that did involve a calf injury right after his ankle injury. Meireles had a knock at the end of the season. Can't remember if Aqua had any niggles once he was back. Maybe Meireles didn't get injured earlier because of his penchant for pulling out of tackles.
I was in Bangkok 2 weeks back and read that one of Thailands top teams, Buriram PEA, were saying that they were 90% certain that they were going to play LFC at their new stadium in a pre season friendly. Not sure if that's going ahead or not.
I really rated Aqua when he played for us last season and felt he'd make a huge difference this season, hence I was incredibly disappointed when that 'joke of a manager' (as he will forever be named by me) sent him away on loan. I think it's hard to make a comparison between Meireles and Aqua because their playing style is very different, although together I think they'd be awesome (especially with Lucas behind them, and that's even without Gerrard). Aqua passes it much more and has a lot more flair, whereas Meireles finds himself in good positions more often and is more inclined to shoot than Aqua. It would be nice to see them both in midfield together, and to think that that would be just 3/7 of our midfielders is scary.
I would like to see them together to, but I feel they would need someone one very strong defensively, like Lucas, in between them as I feel they would be a bit poor defensively. Aquilani and Lucas actually looked very good when played together. But so did Meireles and Lucas.... and Gerrard and Lucas..... and Spearing and Lucas..... and Lucas and Lucas.....
Saturday 25th June 2011: Jamie Redknapp has likened Steven Gerrard to Superman – and spoken of his belief that our skipper's return to fitness will help bring Champions League football back to Anfield. (Clearly he's been peeping in our photoshop thread). - Lucas Leiva today looked ahead to the forthcoming Copa America tournament and revealed his ambitions of helping Brazil to make history. Having lifted the crown in 2004 and 2007, Brazil are aiming for an unprecedented third Copa America in a row - and Lucas is ready for the challenge. (I hope Lucas and Suarez both have great tournaments). - Finally, our former goal keeper Scott Carson is set for a move to Turkey....... Thoughts?
Lucas passes to Lucas who gives it back to Lucas. Oh no! Lucas has tackled Lucas just to ensure that no opponent gets near the ball
