SUMMER 2K14 Transfer Rumour Thread...

Looks like Borini is staying to help add depth and hopefully a different 3rd option upfront next season.

Boss: Fabio is back to add to our quality

Brendan Rodgers has backed Fabio Borini to supplement Liverpool's attacking ammunition next season after the Italian forward made a goalscoring return for the club on Wednesday night.

With the necessity for more experience of the Barclays Premier League in mind, the 23-year-old agreed a loan move to Sunderland for the entirety of the 2013-14 campaign.

The decision proved fruitful for all parties; Borini racked up 40 appearances and fired 10 crucial strikes for the Black Cats as they avoided relegation and reached the Capital One Cup final.

This week, the No.29 was back on duty with the Reds, shining throughout his display at the Aviva Stadium and curling a sublime second during a 4-0 friendly triumph over Shamrock Rovers.

Rodgers was impressed and, following an explanation of why the spell with Sunderland was crucial for Borini's development, the manager predicted a bright future for the striker.

"I thought he was excellent," said the Northern Irishman, who made the Italy international his first signing as Liverpool boss in the summer of 2012.

"With Fabio, it was just a case of we had Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, who I felt were going to play a lot of games; we didn't have so many games with no European football. Luis is so robust, he plays every minute of every game and he's a world-class striker.

"So for Fabio's development - and nothing to do with not thinking he's a quality player, because I know him better than anyone - he needed to go out and get games to prove his worth. He's done that.

"He'll now come back a year later into our squad in the summer; you saw with his pace and his power and his ability to get a goal that he's going to add to the quality that we already have."

Liverpool are considering a move for Bayern Munich's Switzerland midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, 22, as a potential alternative to Southampton's Adam Lallana.

Yes please <ok>

The Reds are set to offer £18m for Barcelona's Chile forward Alexis Sanchez, 25.

Yes please <ok>

Think it may take a bit more than £18m to get Sanchez, not sure about Shaqiri, amazing potential and i can see Bayern wanting to keep hold of him for a while longer to see how he progesses.

True about Sanchez. Would be a steal for that and reckon we'd have serious competition to sign him if he was available for it.

proper rumour that one... huge name, exciting foreign talent, the fee is patetitcally small... just the kind of thing to start jaws a flapping.

Everyone knew martno was out over a month ago. barca's plans are set in stone but i sincerely doubt they extend to giving bargain prices like that!

borini is not a great option.. thats just talk... he misses far too many. i don't mind his basic game par se, and he's got a little pace true but he misses far too many... in short if sunderland have spare cash as in 11mil+ i'd sell the guy so fast he's head would be spinning.

anyway seeing diego is not camped out here.

everyone in manchester does realise that Sagna is an injury prone, old man who's legs are going to go in about 3 months right???? wtf is the story with city and utd offering up to 7mil/year =125/130k per week to this guy??

I agree with this. I think Borini looks good, but he is the kind of player you would start due to his general game / work rate.
He is not the kind of striker you bring on to change things up / add some flair / get a goal.

Borini can play on the wing, Kuyt like player.

10M for Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusan according to Bild. Apparently replacing Lucas who'll go to Inter for same fee.

Lucas denies any knowledge of any deal.

Quite a few people saying that we're looking to buy a goalkeeper to replace Migs as number one because he's not impressed enough this year and there are still concerns over his distribution. If our top target (no idea who, but last summer it was Begovic, before we had to settle for Mignolet) is available for a decent fee, we'll buy him. Alot depends on how cash is there though.

Before anyone asks, it's highly unlikely that Reina would return to be first pick. He's burned his bridges with the club after last summer and won't be coming back.

Weshould never buy a player with sole purpose of being a back-up. By the same token, we shouldn't be buying someone with the intention of demoting a existing player to "back-up". Obviously, we should be buying players that improve the first team so, in theory, they become first choice but in no way should a player ever be guaranteed first choice status. We should be aiming to have competition for places, inevitably some battles will be more clear cut than others, particularly goalkeepers.

Should clarify, when I say 'quite a few people', I mean people who say that's the news coming out of the club, not just wishful thinking by fans.

I think mingolet need to improve but we'll see. i'd rather spend 3-5 mil on an average to good keeper with a view to mingolet improving than spend 10 mil on someone to compete... why? cos anpther full year of mingolet doesn't scare me but an injury for 3 months with brad... i can't concentrate for 10mins jones playing does.

like i said during the week. get a good un thats older and available rather than a randomer

I think LFc might well have 60mil but thats not going to go that far.

Emre Can and Shaqiri for around £25-30m or 1 Adam Lallana. I know which deal I would rather have.

If we can pull it off, then I think this pair would be on par with the Sturridge and Coutinho signings. Amazing potential.

And Lovren for £20m - jesus christ, when will we learn.

Emre Can trending on Twitter. Apparently he is almost ours. I can hear the songs already.

According to German newspaper Bild, Liverpool have agreed a deal with Bayern Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can.

The player has been linked with a move to Merseyside in recent weeks and his profile matches the calibre of player that Brendan Rodgers wants at Anfield.

The German midfielder has impressed for Leverkusen this season, having signed from Bayern Munich last summer. Can is a versatile player who can play left-back and attacking midfield but he specialises in the defensive midfield role that Liverpool are looking to strengthen to help combat their poor goals against record.

Can’s arrival could spell the end for Lucas who plays in a similar role and has struggled to regain his impressive form after sustaining serious injuries.

The rumours are rife that Can is coming to Anfield and it is so encouraging to see Liverpool trying to strengthen positions that have been so vulnerable in the past season.

The positive and early move by Liverpool in the transfer market would prove that the Reds are not going to rest on their laurels after such an impressive season. Indeed, Rodgers and his team are showing that they are ambitious to take the club to the next level after finishing the season so close to becoming champions.

Rodgers realises that he has an impressive team and by adding a few players like Can he bring Liverpool success that the supporters thrive on.

I agree... i mean if you even believe the crap about sanchez its can and shaqiri or sanchez for lallana money.

as for 20mil for lovern... its a joke.

reality will set in down southampton way but only if the press talk is not fake but actually rooted in reality. if the manager goes belief goes and if you are at a midtable club (which is where they finished after all) do you hang round to be come a relegation club or do you go.... its self fulfilling... either you are on the up or its every man for himself.... so unfortunately the board room turmoil they went through and unknown managerial situation has knocked the stuffing out of their real momentum of 12-18months ago.

Its never nice to see a good honest club like southampton who have years of development and effort put in especially in player development be knocked about like that

bild is about as accurate as our newspapers, that is to say... when i see him leaning on something i might actually beleive it.... especially when a player is mooted as being both a left full and an attacknig midfielder. sorry but doneky bale is a one off who'd short career will burn out with his pace... i'd rather have a left full who's a left full or a midfielder who's a mideifleder thanks!

We have though been reported to be scotunig at leverkusen for quite a while on different players so who knows... lets see the lean.
