Not that many seem to be exported, only seems imported players is the normal, no idea why this is? anyone any thoughts?


But one recent exports has all the hallmarks of a great player, cost a mint like.

Gareth Bale, could possibly go onto be the greatest ever export from Britain, has everything to his game.

I think more young British players should go abroad at an early stage in their careers, so that some members of our national squads can have experience playing in different climates/against different styles of football. It'd benefit the home nation teams in the long term in my opinion.

Not sure mate, the language barrier might play a part, though so many on the continent can speak perfect English nowadays I can't see why that would be an issue.

Also Sky constantly reminding us that the PL is indisputably the best in the world probably doesn't help.

Aside from the football, living abroad is such an amazing, mind-broadening experience. I lived in France last year and I loved every second of it, and that was studying literature. I can't see why anyone on a professional footballer's wage wouldn't want to live in France, Spain or Germany, even if only for a time.

In English league player get many more wage, you can find player in top Serie A team earn maybe £10,000 and player in English Championship earn £20,000, no logic for foreign team to pay English player when they can take Croatian, Buylgarian, Norweigon, Hungarian, Polish etc for much less.

Only at very top level does it affect, like Bale.. you cannot be Slovakian Bale because he not exist.. even when this happen there is more barrier, language etc

That's definitely a possibility mate, I would imagine for some of them it'd do them the world of good to get away from the media spotlight in the UK though. Would be good to see some more hard-working, younger players like Bale going abroad, rather than posturing nobheads like Barton...

Clubs overseas only pay mega wages once a player is established, you don't get a player on a 20k contract on potential.

Remember Messi, he'd paid some 30 or so first team games before he got his 'proper' contract.

Then comes the double whammy, British players, whether we have bad coaches, attitudes, they rarely improve over 24-25, I can only really think of Beckham, Scholes & sorry, but Shearer who improved after that age, the rest remain stable at best.

In Spain, Xavi, Iniesta were excellent players as youngsters but hit 25 or thereabouts and they improved dramatically, where then is the incentive to buy someone like Rooney on 300k a week?

Gerrard could have went abroad, Scholes could have played anywhere, Lampard probably wouldn't have suited his game is very 'English' brilliant here but technically may have come up short in Spain, after that, Beckham was signed predominantly for his marketability, but being Beckham made good of his chance, put simply, we haven't had players to export, reflected in a failing national side.

The reason Bale went, is that he was stand out close to world class and still young, and frankly, Bale is a better player than anybody in the England squad, were he English, we could have some hope of a tournament win in his career span.

You take Wilshere from Arsenal for £34 million, and in 3 years you still have a Wilshere.

Of course, we all here stories about youth coaching discouraging young lads from playing with flair, focusing on tactical and strength, how far had that got us?

Brazil, Spain, Argentina, they are brilliant because the players on 150k a week still know how to enjoy football, as with most things on England, anything you enjoy they try and beat out of you before you hit your 20's.

Those of us that ignore that bullshit have a happy life, sadly in the world of football ignoring a clueless **** ruining your gift leads to the scrapheap.

People were so against overseas managers and coaches, well guess what, we will NEVER win a tournament with the English philosophy, never.

yeah to a degree it's true, but I'm not so sure the TV deal etc has any relevance to the players being in the news, more so an incredibly talented sales & markerting team within the FA.

The point you make on contracts is very good, but by the same token, you look at Ronaldo last night, was he thinking about money?

When he scored his first, I thought it was fantastic, he counted out 16 on his fingers, 16 goals scored in a CL campaign, a record, he cared, he cared about football, he has £100million banked, he's world footballer of the year, he's won everything he's realistically going to win as Portugal will come up short for him internationally, but he still was delighted to set a benchmark, to write more history, to once again show that he's the man.

That mentality, that has to be bred in, or born in, as a youth, no good saying to Wilshere now, in his 20's, 'get your head down kid'.

We breed good players with an over inflated sense of what they are, the one who didn't have that, Scholes, was our best player in 20 years.

Watching Ronaldo's unbridled joy at hitting another landmark in a career filled with them, I thought it was fantastic. I couldn't see any English player even caring 'actually, I didn't know until you just told me'.
