Surely if it's deliberate handball in the area, it's a straight red regardless of whether the ball's going in or not?

No, it has to prevent a goal to be a red. Remember the JPT final? Deliberate handball, yellow card.

I like that everyone's calling him racist as if this has never happened with two white players.

You should listen to commentators in Serbia - every week - they actually , really can't tell the difference between the black players unless they can see the number on their shirt! Drives me crazy!

I'd say it's more to do with the rule book they are bound by.

Well yeah. But if they didn't have every decision pored over and every incident filmed from 8 angles, they might be more inclined to occasionally put common sense before a rigid interpretation of the rules. I hate it when you hear commentators say "it has to be a sending off". It doesn't, a sending off is always ref's decision, or it should be.

White people recognise others by hair and eye colouring, so we genuinely struggle with black faces...especially those that are really dark. It is not racist at all (unless someone is being truly offensive, of course). Black people take more note of facial features, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have the same problem in a multiracial society where most people they see are white. Refs have made mistakes before with white people as well. Don't know why he didn't listen to Chamberlain though who was trying to tell him.
