After a pretty successful spell for them, I'm sure he's impressed other teams in that division. And its reassurance to him that he can still do a job as a player. I dont mind if he stays or goes. Versatile as can be.
We still need another midfielder if we get McKenna. Evans is vastly over-rated (meaning he's OK but people think he's as good as Chester and Stewart which he isn't) and Harper is crap. Just like Donald **** says further up, with any CM partnership other than Evans and Harper, we'd have been in the playoffs. I realise he was talking about Leeds but it's exactly the same.
Evans scored some important goals for us, with them we wouldn't of get as far up the league as we did in the end, won us a few points did the lad. Yes Harper is crap no problem there. But Evans isn't overated, no one has said he's the next best thing, he's a young and talented player which will only get better. If he bulks a bit he could be even better, and with Chester, Stewart and Dudgeon all coming from Man U they will have a good footballing relationship too. We need another exciting player like Stewart. Once he got injured it was a bore to watch!
I think Evans is fantastic, got a great touch, runs up and down like Marney but can actually control, shoot, pass and even pick out a pass. He can find himself space, he's good on the ball, rarely gives it away cheaply and can also put in a tackle or two even if they aren't bone crunchers. I think he's going to develop into a great little player for us.
I think with a decent player alongside him Evans will shine, he was covering for Harper most of last season, the few times he was able to get forward he looked good.
I agree, a Manchester United supporting collegue of mine (an anorak more like, he actually goes to all the games, reserve, U18 cup final etc) was incredulous that Man U let Corry Evans leave, especially for such a "low" price. He was adamant that he was better than his brother and was much more reliable and versatile. Having seen him play, I am inclined to agree; he carries himself much better than the more experienced Harper. He doesn't panic, he plays the right passes and can switch to the wings if needs be, helping out a less than mobile Dawson. He also has a mean shot on him and pops up with vital goals. I'd rather have him than Danns, the potential is much greater IMO.
I know a Man U fan who was also disappointed that they didn't hold on to him. He was having to hold back last year but I think he's got more to give. He looked very good in a midfield three.
Kilkenny is a one trick pony, that trick being slowing the game down and giving the odd fantastic pass here and there. As he is incapable of anything else, he is most certainly a waste of a spot on the pitch. Signing him makes sense for you tho, planning on a future in league one.
I love it when TWS fans make league 1 jokes. You've just spent 3 years down there mate, while we were enjoying the EPL with trips to Wembley, Old Trafford, Emirates, etc. upsetting the odds at all of them
Evans is a tidy player better than Marney which shows we are making progress. If the McKenna rumours are true we won't sign Kilkenny. Kilbane to Sheff Utd anyone? shame Hudders didn't make it then as they can't afford him now. Any chance of McShane to Barnsley?
I must be mistaken thinking Kilkenny was an integral part of a team that finished 7th last season. Now he guarantees relegation? I remember the Sheff U fans slagging off Harper last year. Funny because he helped turn us into Play-off contenders and they got relegated. Hilarious in fact.
Kilkenny won't guarantee relegation. He's ok I guess but he won't shine by any means. I simply meant you're destined for a return to league one, and signing killa is good prep for that. If you were aiming for a premier league return you wouldn't sign him because he's nowhere near good enough to get anyone out of the championship. Every Leeds fan is in agreement that with a higher quality CM than Johnson and Kilkenny, we would have comfortably made the playoffs.
Im ashamed to say loads of the lads who play for my football team support leeds Asked them about Kilkenny because i thought maybe the Johnson thing was a bit of a smoke screen while we were looking at Kilkenny. All of them agreed they'd prefer Kilkenny said he was very tidy , good passing and linked up well, said Johnson was fat and only scored a great goal every now and then which put him in the spot light more. I havnt seen too much of Kilkenny so wont start saying hes this and that, sounds creative though if anything, link from midfield to attack which we lacked at times last season?
