I bet he's depressed now :) I had depression for a short time (for a reason, so it luckily cleared up) and I have the utmost sympathy for people who have to live with it.

Just seen Carroll's red card incident for the first time. Contrary to many I think it is a red card...it was a deliberate swing of his arm (may have been provoked but that's irrelevant). The fact that it didn't connect with the face was down to sheer luck.

I don't hate everything about the USA. I quite like the USA. In fact, many of the things that I love originate from the USA. The USA is fine provided it stays where it is and doesn't swamp us with its superficial culture. I love Europe too, and one of things I love is is that it stays where it is and I can dip into the rich European culture any time I choose. It doesn't force itself on me. Have you watched Italy [or Sicily] Unpacked..? Excellent programme, full of depth and richness.

Unfortunately, we share a fairly common language with the USA [very nearly didn't], so I don't see the smothering of British culture slowing down any time soon. American culture appeals to the young. I think it appeals slightly less as one gets older. I kind of wish it was more like Canada, ie, over there.

I love the USA Geography. I think I've pretty much covered every base. :)

I agree, and I thought so at the time. The intent was there, in my opinion. However, he didn't connect, so I think it was a harsh red. The colour of cards tend to be decided and dolled out on the result, not the intention.

    Perhaps an orange..? ;)

Think it's the intent...players have got red cards for feigning a head butt. It was lucky that he didn't smash the guy's face in. WHU are appealing, but I think they are on to a loser.

There's always the odd case, and it's the inconsistency which baffles pundits, players, managers and supporters alike. Actually, I meant intention coupled with degree of result, but I take your point.

On the subject of intention though, I see that two footed tackles are now completely and utterly not to be tolerated, in whatever form. The other week, Rafael of ManU, jumped in on an opponent, with a two-footed tackle, and it wasn't even a foul, when a lesser tackle got his teammate sent off earlier. Playing Arsenal, Flamini made a less aggressive two-footed tackle on Morgan and got his marching orders. Both tacklers got the ball, and the tackled players fell over. My guess is that either there is still total inconsistency over the two-footed tackle, or letters have been sent out by Mike Riley to say the two-footed tackle is completely outlawed.

The purpose behind banning the two footed tackle is player safety...the Flamini tackle could have smashed Morgan's legs. If the tackle is illegal...it is illegal whether the player is injured or not. It's a change in the interpretation of the law designed to discourage such a tackle and prevent injuries.

Yes, that much I know already. The thing is, occasionally they have been tolerated - Rafael's tackle, for one. Did you not see that one..? Only happened a couple of weeks ago.

He has been injured before and they've still managed to score a hatful.
