I'm not suggesting his position should be under question at all, but if Osvaldo really does go and as seems likely we don't make anywhere near his fee back, it has to go down as a pretty serious error of judgment given Osvaldo's reputation. I hope journalists have the balls to hold him to account, I for one would like him to explain what exactly went wrong.
I wasn't meaning you PTF, but yes, it's a cock-up. It's also one that could have gone terribly right as well as terribly wrong. It did the latter, but not through lack of talent. Better to spend 15 on a Dani cock up than 24 on a Fellaini one.
The greater error and managerial/recruitment misjudgement for me would be overspending on someone patently not up to the task, than one that goes wrong through personality. That would worry me more.

Yup, it's a bit of a mare, but we'll laugh about it in a year (I hope). I just think a character misjudgement is way less of a thing to get het up by (it's an unknown) than a basic ability cock up in terms of management accountability.
Even someone like Shaw could have a ****ty week, get dumped, have had no sleep, been wound up, then kicked and overreacted. Stuff like that goes on. Of course it was a lot more likely to happen with Dani, but the lad can play a bit so really, all this MP needs questioning is about as OTT as Dani's reaction IMO.
Presumably Pochettino had a say in bringing Osvaldo in. He hasn't produced when on the pitch, he can't stay on the pitch, and he's hurting the team with his actions off the pitch. I understand that he was a gamble, and not every player works out. But this is turning into a disaster. And it's not just someone having a bad day, or I don't think the players would have reacted this way. And it wasn't the first incident, either.
Taking on Osvaldo was a risk, but you can hardly chalk up what's happened to the "unknown." You don't or at least shouldn't spend that much money on the "unknown," and Pochettino has managed him before, making him much less unknown than your average transfer. Obviously no one is perfect and mistakes get made. But can't give Pochettino credit for Fonte stepping up, or Lovren and Wanyama being great (as most of us have done, and which I credit him for as well) without also holding him responsible for the failures.
It's not just Osvaldo either. He wasn't the only person involved in that fracas with Newcastle, some of the coaching staff got into it as well. And we appealed Osvaldo's ban, which now it looks like maybe we should not have. And we went too far with the silly referee spat. And Pochettino complaining that Saints were getting ripped off by the officials. Let's be honest-- we have not lived up to "the Southampton way" either on or off the pitch for the past couple of months.
We need things need to turn around quickly. MP should be given the chance to do that, as he's more than earned the opportunity. But he's got his work cut out for him, and this will be a stern test of his leadership abilities. I'm happy to give Pochettino the benefit of the doubt for now, but I have to say that my confidence in him is quite a bit lower than it was two months ago.

I just want to point out that we are Southampton, not Manchester United, City or Chelsea. I'm sorry MP hasn't lived up to your expectations over the last two months. Me thinks those expectations may have had a little falsehood to them.
He keeps making these mistakes throughout his career. You would have thought he'd have learnt by now.
If it was his first mistake, I think people might be a bit more tolerant. It's at least hsi 3rd since he came here.
Which is why it seems we've had enough and are getting rid. It was a gamble that didn't pay off. It seems he's got worse. Had he behaved as he did the first time MP managed him (his main reference point) then it would have been a good gamble. Sadly not, so let's move on. Crucifying MP for his judgement is crazy. As I've said, it's not a case of misjudgement in footballing terms (see Dalglish and Carroll/Downing) which would make him far more culpable in my eyes.
I am getting fed up with Dani...has the lad no gratitude? However, will trust the club to do what's right as we don't know what happened. Could have been truly dreadful or he hit out and the result was worse than he intended.
Yep, its quite staggering that he doesn't feel that he owes Pochettino anything for saving his career basically. He should be truly embarrassed and ashamed of himself. If I were Mauricio, I would be furious. He has basically thrown everything back in MP's face and made him look stupid.
I still think the situation is salvagable though, if he apologises and goes about things in the right way. It really is down to Dani, and how committed he is to both Mauricio and Saints. However, if he shows no remorse at all, then quite frankly he needs to go.
Bit over the top to lay blame at MP's door...he took a calculated risk on a player he knew who could have been sensational for us. We needed (still need) a lethal striker and here was an Italian international willing to come here. No doubt Dani said all the right things and Mauricio thought it was worth the risk...could have been a mistake or a massive coup.
What happens does depend a lot on Dani's subsequent attitude (and on the severity of the attack). And also the team's feelings....they are a tight bunch...has Dani fitted in before this?
