If you buy Draxler, surely either Oxlade-Chamberlain or Cazorla would have to leave? Especially if Wenger, as rumoured, wants to experiment with 4-4-2.

In a 3 next season, you'd have Walcott, Ozil, Draxler in a 3. Podolski, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain/Gnarbry as backup. With Rosicky where - not renewed? If you bring a player like him in, there must be 1 or 2 leaving?

Behind you'd have Ramsay/Wilshere wondering where they fit in too?

We'll have the best midfield depth in the Prem.

Also Draxler can feature anywhere along the foward line and is versatile.

I thought Wenger was going to convert Draxler into a CF just like he did with Henry and Van Persie.

That is, if we actually get the player. Of course nothing is certain for now. It could happen but hopefully we'll hear something before the end of the week.

The way you have to look at Draxler is that he's one for the future, in 2 years time, he will be much better than he is now, and 2 seasons from now both Rosicky and Cazorla will most likely be gone, or in the case of the latter, his form may start winding down and that's when Draxler can then become a main asset, that's how you have to look at it. So if he's as good as people say he is, better snatch him up now if available, rather than lose the opportunity and find him being one of the hottest players in Europe 2 years down the road with no chance of getting him.

We can fit em all, as this season has shown, we have so many midfielders, but with the modern game and so many games, everybody gets an opportunity, back a few weeks ago it was where does Wilshere fit in? And now he's had a solid run in the team and in his preferred midfield position.

And I highly doubt Wenger is going to revert to 4-4-2, it wouldn't suit our game anymore, and the game has moved passed the stage of 4-4-2, our game is entirely fixed around a flexible 4-2-3-1 system.

If we get someone like Draxler, than I can't see Rosicky having much of a future at the club, and there are rumours linking him with some MLS clubs. Draxler for me is good enough to get into our first team straight way, so that would mean Cazorla dropping to the bench and Draxler playing from the left. Also, Podolski would also have to worry about his future at the club.

I doubt the 4-4-2 Wenger has in mind is what we think of when we say the 4-4-2.

We currently defend in a 4-4-2, so lets leave that aside. What if you had 2 really solid box to box midfielders, say Wilshire and Ramsey, and you played them on the wings of a 4-4-2. You then, as in any 4-4-2 play 2 mobile forwards, one of which pulls wide to provide width (with the 2 full-backs), stick with the 2 pivots and you have a very sound defensive formation for away games, with essentially 2 #10s in it.

The argument is going to be that width is a problem, but these days perhaps that isn't so much of an issue. Anyway, just shooting the breeze here.

Wenger has hinted Rosicky is staying and will be given a new contract.

Draxler and RVP are the same height. Wenger said that he was looking for a forward that could play with Giroud, not just instead of Giroud. Draxler fits the bill perfectly as he will not disrupt the balance but add depth and ensure continuity. Very much Wenger type of a strategic signing. He can play behind Giroud with Ozil moved deeper, and then gradually introduced as the main RVP type CF.

Apparently Bayern are also interested in him. That complicates matters now. I hope we can bring any summer deal forward or get him to sign a pre contract and snap him up in the summer.

Not listening to these Drax rumours until I see them from someone other than the daily mail or John Cross

Would like to see Draxler in the PL... and he'd be better off at Arsenal than Chelsea or City.

Surely you'll wait until the summer if he's injured until March, or get some sort of agreement from Schalke?

Already mentioned in the comment above, he's not injured anymore. Will be back at the end of January. I think the deal will take place in summer, with us perhaps signing a pre contract agreement now.
