FA confirm that Alan Pardew will face no further action for his comments to Manuel Pellegrini on Sunday. Good decision I think. Swearing goes on all the time, in nearly every aspect of life.

Too slow DTLW! Good decision I think. What are your feelings about it?

I'm not so sure. Wilshere got a two game ban for swearing on the pitch, using a gesture, did he not?

I can see both sides of it. You can't totally rule swearing out, it's kind of illogical. The occasional "oh F!" etc is going to happen in a high intensity environment.

But a tirade of abuse aimed at the other manager in front of the cameras, I am less certain.

Stoke City owner Peter Coates has hit out at "poor referees" and "shocking decisions".

Says he has made the comments as Mark Hughes cannot, for fear of punishment.

Says FA need to look into raising standards because they are unacceptable at current.

Yeah, he crossed the line for me. Should have been reprimanded at least.

Yes Wilshere got a 2 game suspension but I think the FA considered the fact it was towards the crowd, and could be viewed as 'incitement'. I'm not justifying his actions, but I think Pardew was just unlucky that the camera caught him saying what he did to Pellegrini. Nobody pretends that Football players, manager, coaches etc. always behave appropriately, and that includes swearing. It goes on all the time, I'm sure. On the pitch, on the touchline, in the stands.

An apology, and an acceptance of that apology is sufficient to conclude the matter I think.

Cannot disagree with that at all. Stoke were hard done by yesterday.

I think they warned him, and reminded him of the appropriate conduct.

Well, it shouldn't. What about this whole agenda of respect we keep hearing about?

Just because he was unlucky to be caught doesn't mean he shouldn't be slapped.

He looks like holding up that Norwich scarf is the greatest thing that's ever happened in his whole life. Good for him, even if he's most likely just putting on a good face for his new club.

I don't think you can stamp it out. Most people don't see swearing as a huge problem in society, and except it is most frequently used, ' in the heat of the moment'. There is a very dangerous risk that charging someone for only using swear words, will open the 'floodgates' so to speak, and lower the bar with regards to FA charges. In a few years, you could be charging people for shouting on the touchline.

Well you won't stamp it out like this. I don't see swearing as a huge problem (or even a small problem, frankly) in society, but there's a difference between simply swearing, and calling someone else a ****ing old ****. You can bet that if a player said that to a referee, they wouldn't just be reminding him of his responsibilities.

Wasn't is rumoured a while back that Gutierrez wanted to return to Argentina to be nearer his family? Guess Norwich is a little closer, he'll get there in the end :)

Really? One is an expression of frustration and the other is personal abuse. Directing that kind of language specifically at someone is bad enough but to include "old", or any personal characteristic, takes it to another level.

In what other line of work would it be ok to say that to a colleague?
