Blah blah blah rubbish rubbish snipe snipe stupid post idiocy. Can people PLEASE block the people who you really can't stand so we can avoid these petty arguments please?

    Back on topic.

It seems accepted by almost everyone that a top striker is a key missing ingredient from the team. With Pod & Theo back it may be that Girouds hold-up play can bring them in to score, and he proves his worth, but currently it appears a striker would be top of most peoples lists this January.

Is it worth a move for Costa? He's rumoured to have a buy-out clause. How about Remy? He's been good recently & is Prem ready? Benteke has seemingly fallen from grace - is he just off-form or was he a one-season-wonder? How has Benzema been in the last couple of games? And could Higuian been available? There's rumours of Chelsea snapping him up from Napoli?

Why is that? Is that because of Atlético's consistent track record of keeping their strikers??

Of all the TOP strikers available. Costa is the most likley to move.

You seem sensible, so you surely know it's true.

Costa is spearheading Atletico's title challenge. He will cost £30m ish + salary. They won't be able to replace him in January. There's no chance.

TheBear - I can accept 'most' likely, but that's a relative scale. It still won't happen.

The examples you gave all left in the summer did they not?

Nah, i just wanted to tell someone to **** off as Yoda.

I agree, Costa's going nowhere, why give up the opportunity to play in later rounds of the CL for a team that is almost certainly going out in the next round?

I would be surprised if we can pick up a big name striker this January. Certainly not one that will come in and do a job right away. Despite all Bendtner's shortcomings and the question marks over Podolski's ability to play through the middle, their understanding of the team and how we play, will allow them to play better for us than even a big name striker who is brought in, given a shirt and told to get on with it. Even if Giroud goes down.

The only way we will get someone is if there is a bargain deal going, and even then it will be a purchase more for next year than to replace Giroud. Even if we do manage to pick up someone, I suspect he will be used sparingly unless we stop winning or Giroud picks up an injury. Wenger has shown that, except for cup games, he hates changing a winning team too much.

I admire the optimism but that's crazy talk Toledo.
Bendtner is NOWHERE NEAR the required quality. Claiming he would be better option for us than Lewandowski/Cavani/Benzema/Costa/Hernandez/Suarez is complete 'Rose-tinted' delusional thinking.

With our midfield those guys would score a bucket load of goals. I'm willing to bet you that both Walcott and Ramsey out-score Giroud by the end of the Season despite getting in FAR fewer goalscoring oppurtunities.

Giroud lacks efficiency and Bendtner simply lacks quality.
Even this Season Giroud's chance conversion rate is still only about 12% which is less than half as efficient as the majority of top strikers in Europe. Higuain for example is three times more efficient than the big Frenchman.

    Giroud 12%
    Diego Costa 39%
    Rossi 36%
    Higuian 31%
    Suarez 30%
    Hernandez 29%
    Aguero 26%
    Walcott 22.5%

I think we may see Costa, Hernandez and possibly Benzema and Cavani move Clubs this January. Personally I think we would win the league with any of those guys added to this squad.

What's up with Hernandez, he is certainly not what Arsenal need, he's just a good striker, nothing that special about him, we need to be signing top top quality players.

    Someone like Costa or Benzema.

I don't think we should be signing Benzema, I'd rather have Giroud in there. At least he works harder, Benzema looks lazy and waits for the ball to come to him and even then he isn't really that good a finisher anyway.

How many of those strikers were sold in January? Whilst Atletico were joint top of the league? And in the last 16 of the CL with a good chance of reaching the next round?

There is absolutely no chance Costa is leaving Atletico in January.

Everyone is still focusing on Giroud's goalscoring and chance conversion, but that, right now is the least of his duties. Another quote from Wenger:

"Every time I think I give him a rest but we have a team that is a bit short, lightweight and more focused on mobility and technical movement so he is the one guy who has that strength and structure for us... That fighting up front is very important for us."

I don't think Giroud's chance conversion rate is very significant, but I accept that it isn't good and may worry some people. I don't think he gets great chances. Some of the so called "sitters" he have missed are anything but. The one today I thought was a bit rich, because the shot immediately before it seemed a much better chance to me.

Thats because he is supposed to be our primary goalscorer.

I often talk about how good Girouds work rate and holdup play is but a striker without goals cannot ever be considered TOP CLASS.

The difference in big games is very often efficiency up front. Just look at our games against United and City. It was TOP class finishing that decided those contests.

For all Girouds good qualities without dramatic improvement in front of goal we will continue to struggle against top defenses.

There are strikers out there that would take us to another level.(Lewandowski for example) players that don't need 8 chances to bundle in a goal. Players that can make a goal for themselves even. Arsenal have had a plethora of World class forwards over the years and unfortunately Giroud isn't one of them.

To be honest, I can't see anyone coming this window. I think summer is more probable depending on how well Giroud finishes.
