Southampton will make a swoop for Chelsea goalkeeper Hilario or Tottenham shot-stopper Heurelho Gomes if temporary No.1 Paulo Gazzaniga falters while deputising for injured Artur Boruc.
Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino has publicly backed 21-year-old Argentinian Gazzaniga to fill the void but, with such a pivotal time of the season just around the corner, the Argentine will act swiftly if improved cover is needed for first-choice Boruc, who could miss eight games after fracturing a hand in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Gazzaniga had only made 11 first-team appearances before the weekend since being signed from Gillingham last season.

I don't understand why we would want to look to sign a 'keeper like Gomes (32), Hilario (38) or even Casillas (32). Casillas ability is beyond question but, indulging for moment the speculation, the wages he would command? Not to mention that this would seriously knock Boruc's nose out of joint as he wouldn't be joining to add competition but to play first team football.
Gomes and Hilario? Please. Gomes has redeemed himself slightly since his calamitous start at Spurs, but there are reports of him (looking to move back to Brazil) and I'm not convinced he has fully adapted to the Premier League even now. As for Hilario, I fail to see how he would be any better than SKD or Gazza. I'd like to see a younger 'keeper slightly older than Gazza, younger than Boruc and having played a reasonable amount of first team football. I know I've already mentioned him before but Ospina (25 - plays regularly for Nice, although currently injured, and capped 39 times for Columbia) (YouTube Vid) or Sven Ulreich (25 - first choice for Stuttgart) (YouTube Vid) would be a far better investment.

think we are starting to see what some of us have feared since the summer. Injuries taking their toll. We are going to end up with several (mainly young) players having to play 3 games in a week (and probably every game from no until the new year as well) whilst asking players who are not at the level required (yet) to do a job.

We'd be daft not to do something in January in my view. Two or three versatile outfield players and a keeper would probably do it. De Bryne on loan, Bruno Martins Indi to come in as a cb/left back, Guidetti in as an extra goal threat and Wayne Henessey in from Wolves and our squad and bench would look far healthier. a 40 game season could ruin promising players like Shaw, JWP etc. Need to look after what we've got and add quality.

If, if Saints are to add to their squad, and I would need to be convinced that is absolutely necessary at present, it shouldn't be with fillers. Every time Saints add it should be with someone significantly better than what we have already. We can afford it, and it means the progression continues. Kids like Shaw, JWP, Chambers, Reed, etc... will still come through.

I agree we need quality not quantity. I suppose it comes down to whether NC is content with a top half finish which is all we will get if we continue to suffer injuries to our key oplayers and dont have like for like replacements.

Completely agree. Hence why I've mentioned players such as Indi, De Bruyne, Guidetti and Hennesey - all of which I can see making a real impact on the squad and on the first team. Indi and Lovren would be an outstanding pairing, a winger like De Bruyne is nadly needed to take some of the burden off Rodriguez and Lallana who are both playing a lot of games - he'd add quality as well. Hennesey would provide excellent competition for Boruc and is a top international keeper. Guidetti, granted, would be a bit of a risk/squad member but if we could get him playing and back at his level of a year or two ago at Feyanoord he'd be an absolute asset and the long term Lambert!

All these players have been stroongly rumoured to be off in January and if this sort of quality is available then we'd be daft to turn it down. youth players can still come through, of course, but will have to be better to get into the first 11 as we progress and grow as a club.

So Fonte is backup again after how our defense has been so far? Its a tough call really in the Prem. It's very hard to get 4 top class defenders as they know that CBs tend to form partnerships AND be kept together for the bulk of the games whereas other positions are rotated more often. I think we should just advertise Yoshida in the 'free to a good home' classifieds, Get one of the young CBs into the first squad proper and write off this season's hopes of Europe whilst getting even more YOUF experienced.

This injury crisis means we will have to get a couple in during thee window. Think we def need another striker.

I think it would be more prudent to get Osvaldo performing before we think about making his first-team opportunities even more limited.

If we are to reinforce I think we should be looking for a winger and a creative attacking midfielder (assuming Ramirez is beyond redemption) primarily. If a quality goalkeeper or defender is available I wouldn't say no to them either.
