OK folks now the International break is over the rumour mill will start to crank up in anticipation of the transfer window which is just over a month away.

First question is where do we need to strengthen? For me it's a quality left back as cover for Shaw and another striker. What do others think?

Will Gaston depart and if so who do we want as a replacement? Banega keeps getting mentioned.

Will we go back for Astori or are we OK at CB?

As we did in the summer I'll try and update this thread as the rumours emerge.

Do we trust Mauricio? He said we weren't in for a CB...that was the great scene where he snorted and David provided a translation :). Have to say that wouldn't be a priority area for me either. Definitely need cover at LB...can't have Fox as our sub...said with respect because he has done well for us, but we have moved on dramatically. Shaw has a nasty tendency of getting niggles and every bug going, so need a back up. Ramirez has to move on (<wah>) but is January the best time to do it?

I'd like to see us make a move for Chelsea striker Patrick bamford currently on loan at mk dons and one of the leading scorers with 10 goals.

Not a marquee signing but young, English and full of potential fits the bill.

Given the signs of a growing understanding between him and Adam Lallana last night, I think we should make an audacious bid for Wayne Rooney. I think he'd relish playing for an ambitious top four side.

Having seen the England U21s over the last week and wishing to build on the young English talent, I would certainly be looking at:
- Hughes (Derby)
- Ince (Blackpool)
- Berahino (WBA)
All look very good

Forgot about the goalie spot...SKD can stand in for the odd game, but feel faint at the idea of a long lay off for Boruc. Have always felt that Kelvin can be a GK coach and the third keeper (a thankless task), but we need a second keeper. The trouble is that you want a good one, but they want to play. Need a good young 'un.

Love us to go for Will Hughes. Think we may go in for a playmaker to replace Gaston and wouldn't be surprised to see us invest in a versatile full back.

Always thought we were short of options on the right handside but JWP has made it his own. Lallana and J-rod both do a job there too.

Allegedly Liverpool havve already done a deal with Deby for Hughes at £12m.

Thats a shame, he always stands out when he plays. Of course that could be hair related!

He is a great 'box to box' player who scores goals as well. I think he'd be a great investment. £12m seems a lot though for someone who will probably spend more time in the reserves for this season at least.

I think Ince has missed the Saints' boat. Probably lacking in real speed for a top winger.

I seem to remember other deals where Liverpool were nailed on to buy a player and then he miraculously comes to us! Seriously though, Hughes would be a fantastic acquisition, but if we are in for Banega again it's unlikely. Apart from Berahino, the other player I really like from the England U21's is John Stones from Everton. Tall, pacey CB who likes to go forward. Would be good cover for Lovren.

Hughes seems nailed on for us mate. Liverpool fan, long standing interest and was apparently telling the U21s he was getting the transfer...

Berahino would be good for you too.

Would be a little jealous if you got Banega... fine player on his day.

Love the ambition of your transfer policy.

Personally I don't feel LB is something we need to sweat until the summer. If Shaw gets injured then, I think, Clyne is more than adequate to cover with Chambers at RB. However, GK and CB are the two areas I am concerned about. SKD's best days are now behind him and he in no way offers decent competition or cover for Boruc. Also, Yoshi and Jos are yet to convince me that they are capable of adapting to the premier league. For a GK David Ospina would be a good buy and at only 25 he's already racked up a wealth of experience both for Nice and Columbia. For a CB, Robin Knoche of Wolfsburg looks an exciting prospect who already seems fairly established in their defence.

I thought Maya diod well last season and is unlucky that Jose has formed such a good partnership with Lovren. We also have Turnbull and Stephens coming through so I'm not sure CB will be a position we look to cover in Jan.

I don't really rate Turnbull or Stephens. We don't need a back up lb we already have one for next season. We have already talked to Banega.
