I agree with the point about Fox being decent and not being able to find better cover but I don't think that highlighted section is true at all.

Players develop at different rates and Targett is only 18. It's far too early to say he'll never be as good as Shaw. Look at Man Utd for a perfect example. Wayne Rooney at 18 or 19 was a better player than van Persie at the same age but van Persie has now been the better of the two for a few seasons. Messi at 19 was FAR superior to Cristiano Ronaldo at the same age and now there seems to be a genuine debate over who's better.

Every player takes different amounts of time to develop. To say simply he isn't any good just because he is behind Fox he isn't any good is stupid. He is simply being given more time before he steps up. Fox is there for his experience and how is with the younger players. Targett will be back up to Shaw next season imo. Can I ask have you seen Targett play?

Shaw said Fox was the player who'd helped him the most....surprised me too, but nice to hear.

Dan Seaborne has joined Coventry on loan. Not massively relevant but something of note from today's loan deals.

You watched any Cov games FLT?
Saw their game with Bradford on TV a few weeks ago and they play an open game and have serious pace up top. Despite the troubles they look like an entertaining team.

The Daily Express leads with a story this morning about Chelsea being poised to bid £30m for Southampton’s full-back Luke Shaw.
If I was being cynical, I’d say that The Express – knowing that there’s assumed interesting in Shaw from Stamford Bridge – have artificially tried to advance this story by putting a price-tag on the player and a timescale on the transfer.
£30m? For a full-back? When Chelsea already have Ashley Cole, Ryan Bertrand and Cesar Azpilicueta capable of covering the left-back spot?
It’s not very Moneyball, is it?
Shaw will develop into a very good player, but the kind of money being referenced here is absurd – even by Chelsea’s standards, that would be over-paying. Additionally, does anyone really think that, without prior negotiation, the club are going to offer Southampton a straight £30m? Come on now, The Express are telling fibs.
Southampton are really progressing nicely under Mauricio Pochettino, and it’s refreshing to see a different name at the top of the Premier League – wouldn’t it be a shame if talent like Shaw migrated away too soon? It’s not in his interests to leave the South Coast in any case, because he would just be swallowed up by a big club’s squad system and be limited to League Cup appearances over the next couple of years.
