FAO SaintBirdsnest - that was a good piece! I also really like the smart and relatively low-key format of that University online newspaper. Warwick is it? I might alter the font but the content is spot on and pretty immersive across all areas.

Cheers DTLW! Yeah, it's Warwick, I started a few weeks ago. The font and layout etc. wasn't my call, but I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

I guessed it wouldn't be your call, I was just nit-picking. It's a decent piece.

I'm currently trying to track down some more writing opportunities. Someone on this forum, perhaps LTL or someone else (?) mentioned that they knew someone they could put me in contact with, but my mind has failed me. Not good.

For the Game of Thrones peeps out there.

Yeah, with something like sports journalism, experience seems to be so key! I gather you're applying to uni next year though, from what I've read on Beefy's, and I'd highly recommend getting involved with your student newspaper when you go. You can write as much or as little as you like, there should be people to assist you with writing skills, and it's invaluable experience

*EDIT* Good forum is good.

Any particular favourite drivers you'd like to go all the way to F1?

I used to watch a lot of NASCAR actually, but it just became a massive chore to watch for like 200 laps when barely any overtaking happened.

Looking forward to seeing Felix da Costa, but can't say I'm terribly excited by any of the current GP2 crop. Sam Bird will probably make the step up in terms of Brits, but I don't think will be any better than that bracket of Coulthard/Di Resta etc. Possibly Conor Daly/Vainio and the like from GP3, though again, not convinced there's anyone Senna-esque coming through right now.

I can't bear NASCAR to be honest - worst of the racing forms.

I know Paul Weaver from the Guardian pretty well - he's their F1 correspondent, previously cricket. Not sure what, if anything, he might be able to do to help. Let me give him a buzz. Happy to put the two of you in contact, but probably best to wait until the end of the F1 season when he'll have more time, if you'd like to do that?

I know a lot of music journos as well, but figuring that wouldn't be much help?

Snoop Dog changed his name to Snoop Lion has now changed his name to SnoopZilla. <laugh>

Felix da Costa is an interesting one. I think he's lucky to still be on the Red Bull programme tbh, if you look back at what happened to Lewis Williamson a year or two ago when he got dumped after three rounds. But that's a different story. When Felix da Costa is on it, he's a very good driver, but hasn't had the luck to convert that into results.

GP2-wise, I do hope Sam Bird makes the step up at some point. I really like him as a driver, another one who doesn't have the results to go with his ability. I do like Felipe Nasr too, but he's still missing that final 1% that he needs to make the step up. I used to like James Calado, but he's had a crap year this year (although his ART have hardly done much to help, his team-mate is only 22nd in the standings).

I agree with what you say about GP3, no one special seems to be sticking out. There are a couple of very good drivers in there though, Daniil Kvyat seems to be coming good finally, which I'm sure will be a massive relief for Red Bull...I'd say that Kevin Korjus has been a name I've read a lot about in the like of Formula Renault, but he really should move up to GP2 for next year if he harbours serious F1 ambitions.

FR3.5 seems to be where all the talent's coming from these days. Really interested to see what happens with Kevin Magnussen and Stoffel Vandoorne, both of whom are in McLaren's Young Driver Programme, and are fighting it out for the title. McLaren are widely believed to be trying to find a spot for them both in F1 next year.
