I never thought Aubameyang would end up there, but the deal seemed to go through quickly.

I don't really see much Bundesliga. How are they utilising him?

Why don't you watch the Bundesliga highlights every Monday 10pm ITV4? He is used on the right hand side of a front 3 of Reus, Lewandowski and him.

I'm currently finishing off an essay on the United Nations before starting on one relating to the question of...

"Does art always empower us for the better?"

[nsfw]I agree with the first part, which is why I brought up the Grey Matter thing - it's a matter of principle to him after he missed out on something which would have changed his life completely from his college years.

I don't think that's an all-encompassing explanation. I can't find any reason for him to do what he did with Holly and calling Skyler at the end other than to restore some minute thing to his family's life. When he ran off, taking Holly, I have no doubt it was Walt being selfish and evil. I saw the scene with him changing Holly, who cooed for her mother, as him having a realisation - what he was doing wasn't best for his family. His call to Skyler (obviously knowing the police were listening) was surely to absolve her of any blame - I mean, he's disappearing, there's no way he'd need to warn Skyler not to cross him because she'll never be able to encounter him again unless he chooses. While he is a fundamentally evil megalomaniac and all that, I do honestly think he has moments of humanity like deciding to return Holly to Sky and Junior. That said, on the whole, he's certainly a "bad guy".[/nsfw]

[NSFW]I think the whole point of the series is to show that Walt is not evil as such, there were just a series of extenuating circumstances that lead him down the path he is on now. I think they want to show that given the right circumstances, anyone, even an honest chemistry teacher can 'break bad'[/NSFW]

[nsfw]Yeah, possibly. The whole show has certainly been documenting his downfall, from someone who was desperate to just make enough to supply for his family when he dies, to what he is now. There's no doubt the current Walt is a horrendous person, but I'm not sure if that's just because a series of unfortunate circumstances have led to his downfall, or if these circumstances brought out the darker, sociopathic elements to his personality, stemming from his loathing and jealousy of Elliott and Gretchen.[/nsfw]

[nsfw]My take is obviously that it's largely the latter (though whether it can be blamed on jealousy or innate character traits is another matter), and that's why I find the series so fascinating...what was for the first couple seasons -- both for viewers and most of the characters -- a story about "fundamentally decent family man does terrible things out of desperation" morphed over time into "fundamentally evil quasi-protagonist manipulates everyone in sight" in ways that, IMO, cannot be squared simply with the increased stakes/desperation.

Take the famous "I am the one who knocks" scene. Skyler tries to justify Walt's behaviour...he's a good man, he was under pressure, he got in over his head. Walt, on the other hand, clearly revels in what he's become; he's not a victim, he's motherfucking Heisenberg. [/nsfw]

[NSFW]That's true, but I wonder how many others in the population also have these deep-seated flaws, that, given the right trigger (cancer in walt's case) may lead them to become a not so good person[/NSFW]

[nsfw]Yeah, true. I just don't think all of the old chemistry teacher is lost - though a big part of that man died when he cut ties with Jesse. While Jesse was pretty much a tool in Walt's manipulative game, I don't think it can be denied Walt loved him. But yeah, my main point is that I don't think he's completely removed from acts of humanity and kindness, even if the true Walter White died a long time ago, with Heisenberg taking his place. I'm still in Team Jesse. Closely followed by Team Saul cause who doesn't love Saul.[/nsfw]

THE AFGHAN FOOTBALLER An old one, but I like it !

The Liverpool manager flies to Kabul to watch a young Afghani play
Football. He is suitably impressed and arranges for the player to come
    Over.

Two weeks later Liverpool are 2-0 down to Newcastle with only 20 minutes
Left. The manager gives the young Afghani striker the nod and on he
    Goes.

The lad is a sensation. He scores 3 goals in 20 minutes and wins the
Game for Liverpool . The fans are delighted, the players and the coach
Are delighted and the media love the new star.

When the player comes off the pitch he phones his mum to tell her
About his first day in English football.

'Hello mum, guess what?' he says 'I played for 20 minutes today, we
    Were 2 - 0 down but I scored 3, they call it a hat-trick, and we won.
Everybody loves me, the fans, the press, they all love me.'

'Just wonderful,' says his mum, 'Let me tell you about my day …

Your father got shot in the street, your sister and I were ambushed
And assaulted, she would have been raped but for a passing police
Vehicle. Your brother has joined a local gang of looters and set fire
To some buildings and all the while you tell me that you were having a
    Great time!!'

The young lad is very upset. 'What can I say mum, but I'm really sorry.'

    'Sorry?!!! Sorry?!!!' says his mum,

'It's your bloody fault we came to Liverpool in the first place!'
