It looks as if some rumours have a degree of truth or half-truth in them. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/10649309.Hornets_receive_Bond_enquiry/
Chelsea are holding up England under-21 starlet Nathaniel Chalobah’s move to Watford - until they come up with more money. Midfield prospect Chalobah wants to go back to Gianfranco Zola’s club for a second season on loan after turning down approaches from Nottingham Forest and Wigan. But the Stamford Bridge outfit are digging in their heels as Watford want to contribute less towards his wages than they did last year. Chalobah has signed a £30,000-a-week contract at Chelsea in the summer and they are looking for a big sum from Watford. So the clubs are at a stand-off about Chalobah’s future, with the youngster keen to play after impressing on international duty. Daily Mirror
I would say that the Mirror is probably right because we didn't land Tom Carroll due to his wages so it would appear that the Pozzo's are trying to get us promoted on the cheap. This would explain why they are not building the new stand but waiting for a "partner. I have this feeling that the Pozzo's regard us (and Granada) as a side show against their real team, Udinese where they hope to make big money with one or two players without putting that investment back in. GFZ should be very careful with this lot as they instantly sacked the last Granada manager due to results not going their way. Perhaps I'm wrong but the more time we spend with them the more we get to know what their about
I'd say that is a bit harsh. We have had a lot more players come in, and most will be on more than the players they replaced. The likes of Angella, Faraoni and Fabbrini will probably be on pretty good money to convince them to play in the second tier. We have to keep within the FFP rules, so can't go splashing loads of money, and £30k a week is a ridiculous amount of money for an 18 year old, no matter how good he is. The owners have always said they want to build a self-sustainable club. I'd rather that than build up loads of debt then having to sell a few players if we don't go up. They know they will make much more money here if we are in the Prem than udinese will in Serie A, but they still need to do it sensibly.
You're right Salisbury 30k IS a lot of money but that's the way it is at the moment. All the Udinese youngsters will be on the equivalent so why can't the Watford ones. The answer I reckon will not be great for watford fans
Yellowvoice, sorry but you are wrong in saying that about the Udinese youngsters. If you have a look at their total wage bill you will find that it is €21.2m with the top earner Di Natale getting €1.3m. If the £30,000 per week is accurate, then young NC is already getting more than Di Natale. From the research that I have seen about players in Europe, many are doing well if they get £150,000 per year.
If your right Frenchie I stand corrected...............is Udinese the average paying team in the serie A who are they the exception?
It looks as if there are the big clubs paying out large sums and the ones without the big grounds and large followings. It is amazing how well the Pozzos do with one of the smaller clubs. Club wage bill and highest earner: Milan €120m (Pato €4m), Juventus €115m (Buffon €6m), Inter €100m (Sneijder €6m), Roma €95m (De Rossi €6m), Lazio €66.2m (Klose €2.1m), Napoli €53.2m (Cavani €4.5m), Fiorentina €38.8m (Jovetic €2.5m), Sampdoria €29.8m (Palombo €1.5m), Genoa €28.9m (Borriello €1.4m), Bologna €28.4m (Gilardino €1.2m), Atalanta €23.7m (Denis €1m), Palermo €23.4m (Miccoli €1.2m), Torino €22m (Bianchi €1.3m), Udinese €21.2m (Di Natale €1.3m), Parma €21.2m (Amauri €1m), Siena €18.9m (D’Agostino €0.8m), Catania €18m (Andujar €0.6m), Cagliari €15.9m (Conti €0.75m), Chievo €15.9m (Pellissier €0.8m), Pescara €10.8m (Celik €0.4m). The article that the figures come from pointed out that nearly every club is reducing it's wage bill.
Frenchie you have too much time on your hands............I shall now return to my Watford Fc starved box
Not really, I use stuff that others have found who do have more time to spare. I was surprised that there is a big difference between what 'star' players get there compared to what is reported in the UK. Apart from PSG and Monaco now, French players are poorly paid, why most of them are playing for Arsenal.
What really worries me about this post and the previous one about Chalobah's wages is what has happened to our expectations now. Only a few years ago we had a wage cap of £5K per week, and were still losing money. Our income will not have changed dramatically, the attendances are slightly up, and the sponsorships may have improved, but suddenly we are expecting the club to pay wages of £20K+ a week! So where does this extra money come from? We know the Pozzo's don't bank roll clubs. They manage them frugally, get players in on low transfer fees and sell them on at profits, pay lower than average wages. So why are we now suddenly expecting something different? Have we suddenly fallen out of love with the owners that have brought us more optimism than we have had for a long time, and that appear to be more about building a sustainable club? I don't see running the club within its means as showing a lack of ambition. In fact, I don't see the business model that enables us to pay £20K+ a week wages without incurring serious debt on our level of income.
I see that the club is ambitious by not paying crazy wages. It has been proved to be unsustainable to pay silly wages and will only lead to administration again. I want our club to survive, and by not paying silly wages, the Pozzos have increased both my respect for them and my hope for the future.
If what I read about Nathaniel Chalobah and his pay is correct I would need a year to earn his weeks money. Also is he paying proper taxes or is he working to contract as Nathaniel Chalobah Ehf with accountants and VASK.
