Giroud and Pod should suffice for the CL. Another striker for the Prem, FA Cup and CoC (if we're still in it) would go a long way
We're all forgetting about Sanogo. He's had a couple of sub appearances and didn't look any good, but that's not enough to judge. He can get a few more before Christmas, and then we can see what the situation is. It might be that: 1. Giroud has a great first half to the season, scoring ~15 goals or more. 2. Sanogo has performed great as a backup. Would we need another top striker if Pod was back as well? I still wouldn't say no to getting Suarez though.
Real Madrid will use the £42.4m from the sale of 24-year-old Mesut Ozil to Arsenal to make a move for either Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, 26, or Monaco forward Radamel Falcao, 27, when the transfer window reopens in January. http://www.marca.com/2013/09/09/en/football/real_madrid/1378713378.html Not that this would suprise me at all, it's not like Real Madrid are renouned for saving. Suarez would probably be the more obvious target and I can imagine him pushing for a move should Real come sniffing. This could free up other Real Madrid players for us to come in for.
Exactly. You can't make everyone happy in a squad and with a looming World Cup year, players may well be turned by our advances.
If it happened it'd open up the door for a move for Benzema or for Di Maria - both would be quality additions and i'd go for either if they became available! I'd also be interested in us making a bid for Suarez or Falcao.
The more I think about Suarez, the more I want him. Like Ozil, he would fit our system like a glove. The potential link up play between the two would be too much for most teams to handle. Ideal buy for us to be honest.
Yeah i do think Suarez would fit in perfectly with the current crop of players. Think he'd be a big success here. It'llbe interesting to see what happens in January. For the first time in years i believe we have money available for a proper signing in January!
Still can't believe you didn't sign a striker, its obvious to the world and his dog you were crying out for one - and you had the funds available!! Giroud is doing ok - but be honest, would he start for Chelsea/Man City/Liverpool/Man Utd or even Spurs??
We clearly tried to sign a striker of top quality, when we didn't manage that we settled for aloan deal for Ba, which Mourinho then pulled the plug on last minute so we wouldn't get a striker in (****). We will no doubt go back in for a striker in January. Until then Giroud as first choice isn't a problem, he is a good striker and adds a lot when he is on the field that other players at our club don't. And i think he would get game time at Spurs and Chelsea (unless Eto'o is still as good as he used to be).
For Chelsea/Man City/Man Utd .. No he would'nt but that's because they have 'technically' superior strikers in their squads. However Giroud is improving with game time and although I dont think he'll ever be 'World Class' I think with our midfield he may well score more goals than most people are anticipating. I can see him getting 25+ this Season.
At this point, we need all the hands we can muster. I say get him and pray we don't have to rely him until Pod comes back.
Whatever we do I really hope the ground work for the approaches in Jan have already started. We can't afford to piss around anymore.
The thing is if we are 1st/2nd come xmas I guarantee we wont add anyone. I guess another Suarez bid is possible and Benzema is still a small possibility but I doubt we will add unless the Season is going pearshaped.
Past experience suggests you're right....but I think we've turned a corner with the Ozil purchase. Surely part of the conversation Wenger had with Ozil included a promise to add more world class of his ilk. The significance of spending £40+ million on one player can't be overlooked...this is not the old Arsenal way.
Good news. Apparently Arteta could be back for the game against WBA next week (the earliest he could be back is the Stoke City game). Podolski has also made good progress and may be fit by October 1st. So encouraging signs. Also the Mirror reporting that Sami Khedira might like to follow Ozil to Arsenal. That would be sweet.
