I dont think defoe is such a long shot now unless he wants to go and play for Harry at QPR, but I take your point Potts. Cant really pick fault with Hughes (as of yet) because like you say it looks like all the coffers were spent by the previous manager - similar to a departing government.

On another note Fulham seem to be building a decent squad with the signing of Parker and Bent (on loan)

    Smither's
It's reported Defoe is on or want 80 grand a WEEK! Good reasons for buying/loaning him are IMO.
    1. He can and will score, that's not in doubt.
    2. He is miles better than what we have now.
    3. He is still quick and a goal scorer does not lose the knack of doing that.

    Negtives.
    I've read
    1. He wants to stay in London?
    2. He thinks ( and I agree with him) he still has a chance with the full England squad)
    3. QPR IF they took another massive gamble and It would not surprise me if they did. I'm sure Defoe (if paid the said ammout) would not give a **** that QPR are now a Championship club.
    4. As I said IF we can't/do not want to pay what Spurs will want, why bother in the first place.

    On topic
I still insist that as a club SCFC NEED to take a risk on someone proven. Walters simply is not good enough nor Jones IMO. Get thee finger out Miss Coates PLEASE.
They own a betting company, they should know what the risks are.

Heard 2 Arsenal fans on the train today saying that Arsenal are going to offer Szcesny in a straight trade for Begovic

Doesn't sound true but not sure what to think about it :S

I do worry now that Arsenal could well become interested in Begovic. The other top 5 PL clubs seem sorted with regard to keepers but the gooners defence is weak including their keeper. We would not be interested in Szcesney in any case but I sincerely hope Begovic stays put.

What about the increased TV monies this season?

I said elsewhere, is it going straight into the coffers of the Coates family and or Bet365!

Certainly not going on improving the team is it?...oops hang on...2 left backs.

Uncle Peter has obviously been stripped of any remaining power and Denise has hidden the chequebook.

Time for a conspiracy theory or three.

I've mentioned it a couple of weeks ago too Nick, 3m spent so far, so we should have no problem spending 10 or so on a striker, instead of dragging our feet (as usual).

Come on Costes splash the dosh!

Southampton could sign Scott Sinclair on a permanent £5m deal with Manchester City keen to sell the 24-year-old winger rather than allow him to join West Brom on loan.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes is attempting to sign Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe with the 30-year-old potentially moving to the Britannia Stadium on an initial loan deal.

I had a phone call from a good friend, we both follow a guy on twitter and...
It is along the lines of.....

IF Spurs sign Willam spelling, Defoe would be ready to talk to M.H. So we'll see what happens. I no longer use twitter for the obvious reason. Anyone can post literally anything, any rumour on there. For the record. " This is the same guy who tweeted me that Crouch had signed some FOUR days before it was made public" So in that sense I trust him. BUT there is always a but during this transfer window.

I will keep an eye on the Spurs signing which personally I think WILL happen. Liverpool fans we're telling us on Saturday he was going to Anfield. It now looks certain he will not.

£5m is a snip IMO for a young winger to replace Etherington who is surely past his best, the same with regard to Downing for a similar amount. Pity we have shown no interest in trying to sign either.

    IMHO guys,
That is peanuts in comparision to (some) signing we made in the past. Which is why, like you guys I am getting slightly worried. Although, Willian has had a medical at Spurs, they may confirm that signing in a few days. Must also add, either of those 2 players mentioned I would be happy with. As I said above it seem's that we're Stoke City and there always seem's to be a BUT! Ether's on Saturdays showing simply is no good enough.
