Looks like you're going to be singing Juan Agudelo from the New England Revolution.

    http://m.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2013/08/06/report-new-england-revolution-forward-juan-agudelo-signs-pre-contract-stoke-

Personally, I don't think he's good enough to be a regular starter in the MLS, let alone play in the Premier League. He had trouble breaking into a Chivas USA team who have been the worst team in the MLS in the past 2-3 years, which is why he was traded to New England.

I've heard mixed things about Agudelo, I've seen that he's meant to be a decent young talent, apparently he's also had interest from Liverpool, Celtic and Stuttgart, but I have also read the same as what Manobear just said, it seems he is struggling in the MLS.

He has some talent, and he's gone and trained with quite a few European clubs, I think his most recent was at Liverpool, but as far as I've noticed no ones actually been interested in keeping him on a permanent basis. There's much more talented young American strikers in the MLS around. The Galaxy have 3 strikers that are better, 2 of them are younger and ones about half a year older.

This is all I could find on the player, personally I can't say I would be that worried if we didn't sign him. Dempsey cut the mustard in the P.L. so we'll see what happens.
I believe that our Chief Exec Tony Scholes stayed in the U.S. trying to tie up a deal with his club.

The New England Revolution striker will leave MLS in January after agreeing to a pre-contract with Stoke City. If MLS and Stoke can agree to a transfer fee, the move could happen this summer.

It would appear that Stoke City are doing their best to become the favorite club of American soccer fans with the news they've signed forward Juan Agudelo to a pre-contract.

The 20-year-old is yet another American player who was burdened with the unrealistic expectations of USA fans at a young age and has subsequently struggled to find consistent success. It's hard to say that he's really ready to make the move to Europe but it's happening for better or worse.

Agudelo's contract with MLS expires on Dec. 31 and players are allowed to sign a contract with a new team once they are within six months of their current deal ending. Unless MLS can work out a transfer deal with the Potters -- which reportedly is being discussed to move Agudelo this summer -- the league will not receive a transfer fee.

Agudelo came up through the New York Red Bull Academy and played three seasons with the team before being traded to Chivas USA. After the well-publicized philosophy change at Chivas USA, Agudelo was again moved on to the Revolution earlier this year where he's made five appearances with three goals. He's missed the last seven weeks with a knee injury.

He'll join fellow Americans Geoff Cameron, Maurice Edu and Brek Shea at Stoke

West Ham United have agreed a fee with Liverpool over a deal to sign winger Stewart Downing.
The 29-year-old England international is expected to undergo a medical and agree personal terms before completing any move to Upton Park.
    Stewart Downing factfile
    Age: 29
    Position: Winger
    Liverpool appearances: 91
    Liverpool goals: 7
Former teams: Middlesbrough, Sunderland (loan) and Aston Villa
Downing was signed by Liverpool in a £20m deal from Aston Villa in July 2011 under former manager Kenny Dalglish.
He was a regular last season but has failed to make a major impact while at the Merseyside club.

5M is certainly a reasonable price considering Liverpool paid 20M for him. He would have been worth a punt IMO especially as Ethers is perhaps past his best.

As for Diouf, I've not heard anything more

I take Ricc's point that he has had a torrid time at Liverpool and with a 20 million price tag it s hard to see him in a positive light - however, like you, I think at 5 million he would have been a solid addition on the left with the likes of Ethrington, Kightly, Brek etc..being unfit or unproven.

I would love Sinclair from Man City or Ince from Blackpool myself but I think our financial restrictions would prevent these deals?

Well my fellow stokies here is the latest for te Sentinel today... Hughes is no longer interested in the Turkish guy, playing if France. Seem's we have turned our attention to some guy by the name of Jermaine Defoe. IMHO there is more chance we get a UEFA spot than signing him. You think I'm joking I wish I was. It goes on to say, WAGES might be a problem???? WELL WTF are we even looking at bringing Defoe in then Sparky? Having lost out on 2 player's and now Hughes thinks the Turk is a Chicken read the Sentinel for more info on that. I have come to the conclusion that Hughes has little or no money to spend. Or, he's wasted the clubs money flying to France in the first place.

Frustrated and also angry now, given that it is so bleedin obvious we NEED a Centre Forward that CAN score. And it seem's the club is just P*****g around as per usual.
With regard to targeting a player and actually signing ONE..
