So how did people rate Gayle. cant comment as i didnt watch. Just curious if he comes close to his transfer fee

 

It's the "us against them" thing that managers like to foster, but I do think that you need to tread a fine line. Go overboard, as Holloway is wont to do, and you instead end up telling your team that no matter what they do, the world will conspire to hand your opponents the win, which isn't terribly motivating.

 

Holloway is mental. Clattenburg had a good game. It was also a clear penalty.

So quite a bit of comment on threads about United not being up to it and only RVP getting them the title, yet they go away to Swansea and give them a tonking. Does this mean that United are really good and Moyes has got them all onboard and firing on all cylinders, or are Swansea looking at a difficult season.

I think most people thought Swansea would comfortably top half team, maybe pushing on further under Laudrup, yet at the same time people are questioning United. It can't be both, so which is it?

Are United great, or are Swansea on the edge of a poor season?

 

Dont think United are great but certanily top4. Think Swansea will find it hard to match last season as will West Brom. Can't decide until a few more games played.

 

He was complaining about an incident about 30 seconds earlier, which led to the attack before the one that won the penalty. Arguably a foul, but stretching the causal chain somewhat.

He'll probably be charged, but what would be more funny is if Clattenberg came out post match and said "I've got to learn what a striker is because Gayle only touched the ball in the box twice, and Phillips is older and slower than me. If the manager didn't see that, the assistant should have. You have to ask if he's good enough if he didn't see that. I don't see how he can miss it."

 

Well it could be both though haha, it's only one result, just cos Swansea took a beating (Despite holding their own and contesting the match as equals for the most part) because of some superior finishing does not mean they're going to have a rubbish season, and United grabbing a hefty away win against a mid-table team does not make them particularly strong.

 

RvP will get an injury at some stage as well....

I thought the shoulder barge that Holloway was referring to was borderline fine. There was a slight element of playing the man, then the ball. As you say, the causal link to the penalty was tenuous.

On another general point, I don't tend to follow herd thought and believe that Holloway is an idiot. He has a way about him, it's true, and it may appear loose cannoned, but he sometimes hits the nail on the head, and people listen. And, although I didn't agree with him, his questioning of Watford's loan policy, last season, brought it to the attention of the FL, if they weren't already aware of it.

Well I watched the whole game and I honestly thought both teams looked a bit flat. United won it on account of being more efficient in front of goal but they were very boring to watch unless RVP had the ball, and they still seem to rely on Giggs for creativity. Swansea's beautiful passing style that we're so familiar with just wasn't present, and yet again Ashley Williams failed to show me why people rate him at all. They both looked like teams we could beat on that particular day, to be honest.

 

Man Utd looked dodgy defensively and Swansea had a good 15-20 minutes at the start. Man City have bought very well and Chelsea have the best manager in the world, Man Utd have bought no-one and may lose Rooney. I'd be very surprised if Utd don't get 3rd this season, and yes, they are a one man team! Bony looks good and Swansea have spent well, Europe will distract them but I expect them to finish 8th-12th, more likely towards the latter. I predicted them to come bottom last season!
