Michu is no one season wonder. He would probably be the most ideal replacement for Suarez if anything.
Well people have been calling for a mass clear-out for ages now and it looks like we are almost complete with thinning the squad out. Only Bendtner and Park left afaik? Hope we get these two sorted soon as well. I'm impressed that we have found homes for so many of our rejects and i hope they go on to enjoy there careers at other clubs.
Something i'm particularly happy about with the squad we are left with is i think they are all fighters, we have a group of players who look like they are willing to work hard to get results (aswe saw at the end of last season). We've shipped out people who didn't pull there weight and been left with a hard working core. Now we just need to add some quality depth to this squad and we will be well positioned for this season.
Agree. But the clearout this Summer has really highlighted (for me) how many mistakes we've made in recent seasons, including the academy I think we've offloaded 23 players now and I really can't remember any team that wasn't in administration ever go through a clearout on that scale. So yes, credit the club for finding ways of getting rid of players who aren't at the grade we need but remember the errors made, and who knows what impact some of those errors had on players leaving - would Van Per$ie have been desperate to go if we'd bought Mata instead of Gervinho or Rooney instead of Park or maybe just not buying Silvestre, Squilaci, Chamakh, Joel Campbell etc etc etc, players who were never at the level to be able to improve the team. I'll never change my views on the selfishness of some of those who have left but I do wonder what impact it had on our better players when some of those turned up for training....
I guess it's all speculative as to what might have been, but I take your point. Fabregas, Nasri and RVP had been calling for us to sign some top talent most of the time they were with us. But all we can do now is praise the club for getting rid of those who haven't helped us move forward and clear out the space for some new faces to come in, I think it will be a mixture of signings and promotions from the youth/reserves over the next few windows. Players like Akpom and Zelalem look like they'll be playing some first team football this season.
Gustavo rumours hotting up. 14 million apparently. I just hope to hell it's true. Ditherpool look to be coming to terms with the fact that Suarez hates the club now, so hopefully not too long on that front either.
This potential Gustavo deal reminds me of the Cazorla last summer. A world class player for an incredible price.
Absolutely, some of the youngsters look very decent and if they develop then AW is spot on in that they can make the transition into senior football and become as good as big money signings. Gustavo looks to be a done deal and I can't believe the Suarez situation will be left as it is for much longer and of course we're in a great position here because no-one else is interested in the player, this should force Liverpools hands. With Rooney and Fellaini also out there I've not given up on this window, there could yet be some exciting additions for us....
Gustavo would be a great signing for us. And one of Suarez or Rooney along with shifting the deadwood would make this a decent transfer window
Would rather Benzema than Rooney, but I can't see Real selling him now Higuain has gone, unless ........ Suarez goes to Real.
I hear something about a 45m Euro bid last week but surely Madrid wouldn't sell both their strikers leaving them with just Ronaldo ? With the likes of Cavani, Falcao, Neymar, Higuain and Jovetic all moving this Summer what options are left for Madrid if they allow Benzema to go ? Of course Liverpool would be far happier letting Suarez go to Spain....
