'A member of FIFA's executive committee says awarding the 2022 World Cup to Qatar was a "blatant mistake'' and that even moving it to avoid searing summer temperatures wouldn't be ideal.'

How did a bloke with a brain make it onto the FIFA Executive Committee?

To be honest, i think it's about time there was a winter world cup. Plenty of nations have to change the schedule of their domestic leagues to accomodate international tournaments, why shouldnt Europe take their turn?

I know people think I'm deliberately controversial but I genuinley mean this. It's not all about us, us, us all the time - its a world cup.

You also say "genuinely" and "literally" a lot I've noticed too.

    As for moving it? No.

For purely selfish reasons, I enjoy cramming into a pub in June and getting smashed in the summer for the 3 or so games England are involved in.

It's just the way it is, innit.

    ****ing corrupt FIFA...

Qatar should be stripped of the tournament (It can actually be done) and it should be given to one of the other 2022 bids (USA, Australia, South Korea or Japan)

Why should they be stripped of it? It's a region of the world that is mad on football and yet has an underperforming national team and a national league that relies on foreign imports on high wages. Hosting the tournament is their chance to show that they are an up and coming footballing nation and it's a chance for fans to visit a different country.

Why should a whole country be punished because FIFA are idiots? Qatar will have taken ages building up a bid and spending money doing up stadia to conform to international standards. Qatar hasn't done anything wrong other than have a hot climate, something which can't be avoided. We're managing to host it in Brazil, which also happens to be right near the Equator and also ****ing hot. Shall we strip it from them as well?

They won the bid with brown envelopes alledgedly. Also air conditioned closed stadiums were also top of the list. So if this is not possible then give the 2022 WC to a country that can handle it. Simples. Hopefully Septic Bladder will be in the ground long before then.

Think FIFA have got to stick my their decision now, for better or for worse, and when it is proven to be an error - accept the flak.

I agree in principle in what you are saying. It is a world game and should move around the globe to nations who haven’t hosted it and would benefit from hosting it. Even though I wouldn’t want a winter World Cup personally, I also think that BCC makes a valid point too that it perhaps is ‘our’ turn to change.

As far as I’m aware, nothing has been proven with regard to the alleged corruption. If anything is proven, my instinct would be to punish the individuals concerned rather than the entire country.

I think that if the anti Qatari feeling prevalent in this debate was if applied in other walks of life, it could be perceived by many as being prejudicial and borne of racist sentiment

Although I do still enjoy watching international football its importance to me has decreased as the years have gone by and pales in comparison to club football. If the game is truly for the globe, then accommodations and acceptance of global conditions should be part and parcel of it in this spirit. Besides, we’re all used to the concept of certain conditions being accepted as part of ‘home advantage’ are we not.

    Fair enough.

It boggles the mind that most of our current squad will have retired by the time it comes around! However, I fully expect Chester to be leading England out.

It sometimes genuinely astounds me how people can literally be so self-absorbed and not see that sometimes we have to do things that arent genuinely or literally in our own interests.

    Is that ok Party?

The best World Cups have always been in Europe or South America and this is my preference. Brazil should be fantastic, South Africa wasn't and neither will Qatar. Its a global game and I'm not anti Qatari, just think WC tournaments are **** in Africa, Asia and North America. We don't have to peddle our game around the world to take it to new markets like some grubby tubbylard magic weekend. Enough choice in Europe and South America where the genuine football traditions and passions are.

We started this football lark and it's not our fault everyone else plays it wrong.

Any of those four would host a brilliant World Cup.

And on a completely irrelevant note, your avatar looks too much (out of the corner of my eye) like Carmine's old Les Mutrie/Zombie one and I always think it's him posting when it's actually you.

But then put yourself in the shoes of citizens of countries like Eritrea, India and Indonesia. Football is just as massive in those countries as it is in England. The standard might not be as good, but it doesn't mean they enjoy football any less. If India, who are football mad (and cricket, they like that too), won the right to host the World Cup, then a load of moaning bastards claimed it wasn't in the direct interests of football and demanded it be moved, what justification would you give if you had to address that nation?

They might not be the mightiest footballing nation in the world, but hell, why should they miss out? It's called the WORLD Cup, not the Euro-South American Cup.

Having countries hosting these tournaments also means that we get to see new teams at the World Cup. Qatar wouldn't have a cat in hell's chance of qualifying normally, but they will through hosting this tournament.

We're going to **** up every league in Europe, just so we can play an international tournament in a place with a population similar to that of Merseyside?

Bribery and corruption got them this gig, if they lose it, it will absolutely serve them right.

Bungs - how realistic is it for a premier world football event to be played in temperatures of 40 degrees? The ****ing idiots lost all common sense when failing to take this into consideration. Playing competitive football in those temperatures will put lives at risk, then it'll be so hot it will look like a training exercise.

    Ridiculous decision.
