I agree in principle in what you are saying. It is a world game and should move around the globe to nations who haven’t hosted it and would benefit from hosting it. Even though I wouldn’t want a winter World Cup personally, I also think that BCC makes a valid point too that it perhaps is ‘our’ turn to change.
As far as I’m aware, nothing has been proven with regard to the alleged corruption. If anything is proven, my instinct would be to punish the individuals concerned rather than the entire country.
I think that if the anti Qatari feeling prevalent in this debate was if applied in other walks of life, it could be perceived by many as being prejudicial and borne of racist sentiment
Although I do still enjoy watching international football its importance to me has decreased as the years have gone by and pales in comparison to club football. If the game is truly for the globe, then accommodations and acceptance of global conditions should be part and parcel of it in this spirit. Besides, we’re all used to the concept of certain conditions being accepted as part of ‘home advantage’ are we not.
