Simon Peach reporting that Saints are interested in signing Kyle Naughton from Tottenham.

24 year old full-back, can play RB or LB. Played 14 times for Spurs in the PL last season. 9 games in the Europa League also.

Has also represented England U21s on 9 occasions.

    Available for around £4m apparently.

Decent price, but he'd only be a backup really, he's not as good as Clyne or Shaw.

Fine, that's a good deal for Naughton. Is he happy being backup for his whole career though?

Naughton's a solid fullback, and he can play anywhere along the back line. £4m is a little steep for depth, but he's quality depth.

You think Shaw will stay his whole career? I don't. This is a good bit of business for Saints if we do it, good cover.

No, but Naughton certainly won't be his replacement because we can do a lot better.

True, but he'd be a good cover and may develop further as he is 'only' 24. He'd get some game time too with us. I would be happy with him.

But most importantly, can he fill Mr Fox's ample boots?

I wouldn't complain. Would be good as a backup.

would love to see a fullback come in, naughton seems alright. I would rather see peruzzi come in as he could make a proper impact on the first team wheras naughton probably won't. Bring naughton in and we are pretty much sorted defensively.

Not sure why he'd leave Tottenham to come to us to be in the same situation of "back up". He did at least play 14 times for Spurs last year & 32 for Norwich in the Prem the previous season. Not sure he'd get that much unless Clyne & Shaw get injured. Unless more money is involved I can't see it happening.

I suspect we'll be rotating Shaw a lot remember he's only 17 and he eemed a little prone to knocks last season & I also think we'll be rotating our CBs quite a lot as we did last season; the pressing game is very tireing on them as well as our full-backs. We needed one more CB and if he's better than Fonte and\or Hooiveld and particularly Fox, then he's perfect for us. As he can also provide cover for Clyne, then so much the better.

He might not be better than what we already have in terms of Shaw and Clyne but i personally think Naughton would prove to be a decent signing for us. He is a solid young full back who can play of either side and also in the middle while still being young and has the potential to further improve. In Clyne and Shaw we have our starters but we definitely need cover behind them and if Shaws little injury niggles continue into next season or one of them get an injury , Naughton will see a decent amount of playing time.

4 million seems like a decent price for him also , i would happily take him!

Yes, I'd imagine that there are PL clubs out there who could offer him a lot more regular PL football than we could. And these days, £4m isn't a huge amount of money for any PL club.

I'd be surprised if he came here, though I would gladly take him.

Naughton would be great if we can keep him happy, decent full back and am i right in saying he can play CB well enough? Or am i mixing him up with someone else? Any way he would solve or backup problem really well

I'd be delighted with Naughton as back up. Anything but seeing poor Danny stride once more onto the field.

I can't see naughton agreeing a switch, unless he was guaranteed first choice. This smells of made up story to me

He just played in the game against Sunderland so doesn't seem terribly imminent.
