Don't think it's bending the rules myself. What they are doing is buying from another club. It just happens that the club they are buying from is owned by their owners. I think its a perfectly good solution. Of course, they can still go back to their former club in any transfer window. 1-0 to the Pozzo Family for being imaginative.
