I still don't understand this game. Surely the batsman could say "no don't bother with the review I edged it".

I think you're misunderstanding it a little, it's not a case where every decision is reviewed or it's decided by the Umpires or anything, each team has two reviews and the actual batsmen themselves ask to review it. That is what DRS is, and why the Aussies have been muffing it so badly, they themselves have been the ones asking for rubbish hopeless reviews and then wasting them.

The other kind of 'review', although they're not really called that, is that the Umpire can ask the third umpire to make decisions on run-outs and stumpings.

Oh ok I thought it was down to the captain, still he must have known he'd hit it right? So the rest of the team have the right to be a bit pissed at him wasting it.

Well the captain has the final decision when his side's fielding but the batting side doesn't have the captain on the field all the time.

It's down to the captain when you're bowling, but down to the individual batsmen when you're batting. You'd think he'd have known but it can be a bit of a mystery getting into batsman's head sometimes, I used to play with a guy who even under torture would be unlikely to admit he'd edged it. He put one to first slip once and genuinely refused to believe he'd hit it, I told him I'd pay him £20 if he'd admit he hit it and he said 'He'd love to but he really didn't hit it'. I was on his team and it still annoyed me. <laugh>

While Clarke was still at the crease the Aussies had a chance of getting near England's score. Not any more. Mind you here's Agar....
