Which ones were those? Telling folk to **** off and calling them ****s seems to be an accepted norm on these boards, so not those then; the rest was discussion about the suitability of a prospective football club recruitment and this is a forum that discusses football related issues - with or without direction, so not them, either.
 
ive noticed there seems to be a recent trend for people to call each other **** . . i dont get it i cant think of a time ive had to do it .
And when i see it i see someone trying to be all cockney hooligan from a **** film !
in the words of Alan Partridge - "it's saaaaaad"

its the most pointlessly overused word on here and has no real gravitas IMO .
 
Football fans have a convenient memory's. If Myobo (whatever his name is) came to any team and started scoring goals his past would soon be forgiven by them.

I once thought the moderation excellent, now it is good. What I do not understand is that mods recognise out-of-rules posts/threads, yet allow them to grow (sometimes participating in as antagonistic manner) and then are surprised by the resentment when they are closed. You once said that the best way forward was to kill off the out-of-rules threads immediately and I think that is spot on. This bollocks about PMs, is exactly that, why hide the questions? If a thread is on-topic, as ysterday's was, why close it simply because someone (you and a few others) believe it going nowhere; isn't that judgment a little elitist? Simply ignore it, use a filter or fall asleep.
Opening this thread was canny, as it is this occasional discussion that will maintain the quality of the board; they are, after all, simply views from anonymous posters.

Spot on sir, quoted from the excellent Intelligence Squared debate I believe. For me religion & politics are fair game & should not be awarded special status. When you're talking about a serious crime such as rape - I don't think there's anything to joke about. Derogatory remarks about the victims are distasteful & lack respect and empathy. If you joke about religion & politics there is no victim. I think Richard Dawkins said "Blasphemy is the only crime without a victim".

People will say "it's my faith, you have no right to critisize my faith"

I don't, however if religious people claim things they simply cannot know, then it's quite OK to ask for a rationale. Same with politics - the claims need to be backed up by facts. Politicians & theists are quick to assert their views yet seem rather deaf when confronted with difficult questions.

People know what's acceptable on a message board & if they're out of line they get dealt with - either lambasted by the majority or kicked off by the mods.

As for the football issue - Should Mboyo deserve a chance? I don't see a problem debating that. It's a social issue too.

Closing threads that break the rules as soon as they appear is all well and good and it does happen, but it requires a mod to be online when the thread starts and moderation obviously isn't a full time job.

Though it sometimes used to feel like it.

It also implies it's black and white from the start and always clear cut.

We have a few posters who seem to want to see if they can sneak threads onto 'taboo' topics so they can whine about incosnsstency.

It's not an exact science, the mods are human and the posters diverse, so with the best will in the world we'll never please everyone, but we try to work for the majority, not the vociferous minority.

Also, dealing with issues via PM allows people to talk more openly and saves the board being filled with mundane chat about what will never be hard and fast rules, which sets too authoritarian a feel to the board.

In general, when football,s on it works well, as testified by the volume of traffic this board generates.

Fair enough - I actually meant in general life, behaviorally speaking, we all know that some big mouth hard cases on a messageboard would be sipping their half a Mild at the corner table down the pub..

I appreciate that, but the earliest opportunity would work, or simply scrap the rules and block trolls, although my preference would be just football and mainly media/music, as it is meant to be now.

There's no forum without the vociferous minority, as can be seen on most boards. I agree that it is a difficult task, but yesterday it was made unnecessarily difficult for no real need - it was a harmless discussion that simply bored some, it would appear. Never mind, it's not the end of the world.
 
This is still the best Hull City board with the best posters on.

People fall out but so what it doesn't matter does it.

You can't go separating football from other topics - it's part of modern culture and goes hand in hand with politics, music, fashion, society, architecture, leisure & some even say it's a religion..
 
Politics and religion are widely recognised as conversations with emotion and conflict, therefore bet avoided if you want to keep it light. As has been said, football banter can survive without those two monkeys!

A good opinion; it just struggles a tad when the football drip is turned off.
 
Lack of football.

Saturdays are terrible without our footy fix.

Even worse if you don't like cricket / Tennis.
 
Why are people asking for threads to be closed? Don't go on them if you don't want to read them and if the content is offensive to you, then fine, just don't go on it again. Asking for it to be closed isn't really fair on those who want to keep it going.
