You're right. Perhaps I went a little too far; I don't really understand how being called a liberal is an insult.

Go for it. I applaud your moral stance.

I neither agree nor disagree with your position, as I don't know enough about the incident to judge. However I would admire you for taking the stance at a personal cost of £600+.

That shows real commitment to your beliefs.

What would I say to nieces. When they ask why are 2,000 plus visiting supporters taunting our player with rapist chants?

Well E , he was part of a gang that gang raped a girl same age as YOU.

    Doh.

Why are you cheering for him uncle C .

Coffee ... Feet up time... Relax...
Have a good friday and a good weekend everyone ..

Hopefully we will sign players we all like , want.

Not even signed him and people are ranting and arguing and falling out.

    ( me included )

Have a good weekend mate. Honestly held views with reasoned argument to back them up. Plus you avoided descending into personal abuse when people held opposing views.

Look forward to exchanging views on a preferred target (Bent, Hooper, Austin?).

I'm honestly the most laid back (or liberal<whistle>) person I know, and always fail to empathise with anyone when they starting venting to me. I just end up telling them to cheer the **** up.

But anything involving hurting a woman in any way is beyond the line for me.

    Crimes have motives.

Thieves often steal because they need money.
Murder/Manslaughter cases are often crimes of passion.

Rapists commit their crimes because they can. If hell existed, they could all rot there.

    Well, there we have it.

Rehabilitation of a juvenile is not allowed or possible; nor is the possibility that a 16yr old girl would be able to determine her own attitude and opinions. Personally I believe that the general consensus would be that, as long as he has subscribed to reasonable behavioural guidelines of his probation, then he should be allowed to develop within a reasonable and thinking society. Save your hate for them that really deserve it (he may eventually), indeed, build the gallows and swing'em and all of those who will grow into your expectations.

When my boy was 15/16yrs old I thought of him as a bairn and I strove to be his moral compass, as I did his sisters, but he saw and judged things for what they are (they call it growing up and becoming a person of individuality); hopefully, 16yrs later it has worked out. Many have used the term, child; I don't know what that means to you or where you draw the line, but children are influenced by many things and react in all manner of ways - judge and be thoughtful of how easy it is to groom and corrupt a child - bragging about microdots at 13yrs old springs to mind; is that good and clever? The ones that want it deserve us movers and shakers, of such high moral and liberal opinion, to offer them an option other than the devil or his acolytes; that includes some level of forgiveness and tolerance by reasoned judgment.

This guy might just be a total knob of the worst order, but how many of you, in your halls of judgment really know what he is now?

I wonder how many talking of rehabilitation would be happy for boyo and his chums to babysit their daughters/grandaughters?

A part of being a footballer involves visiting schools and being a role model. A gang member and rapist is hardly that. I don't think he should get a work permit in this country. Let someone else pay to rehabilitate him. We're a football club, not a probation service for sex offender. I'd rather support the poor lass that's the victim.

An EU resident doesn't need a work permit, but an EU resident who's been convicted of a serious criminal offence can be refused entry to the UK.

True, but it won't apply in this case.

"EEA citizens may be excluded from the UK only on very limited grounds of public policy, public security or public health. Previous criminal convictions cannot alone constitute grounds for taking such measures."

That'll learn me not to read the full story. I just assumed foreigners coming here to work needed some paperwork. Just guessing he's classed as Belgian now which makes him European. Still think his rehabilitation isn't for us as a club or a Country.

I'd say public security and health are served by keeping sex offenders out.

    Fixed that for ya.

Not saying it's okay, but frankly, your post puts the daily mail to shame for demonising spin.

If you think an individual at 16 is the same character and just as likely to be influenced by gang mentality as a 26 year old man of means and responsibilities then we may as well lock every youth offender up for the rest of their lives; though there are plenty of ex-offenders acting as both a deterrent and as encouragement for others who have fallen from respectability that reform and successful rehab is possible.

Yes, it's a horrible crime, but no more horrible than a lynch-mob society which eschews the principles of justice, reform and rehabilitation.

If that's the kind of world you want to live in then millions of lost British, american, european and commonwealth lives were completely wasted 70 years ago.

That said, I would prefer not to have that sort of crime associated with my club - footballers are role models after all though there are plenty of reformed criminals working with kids sharing the dark reality of their past criminal lives. What this man did as a child is in many ways unforgiveable, but it is hardly the same as a legally responsible adult (under british law) knowingly and violently abusing a 14 year old as cheshireben's post suggests.

Oh, and DMD - If he's no longer on probation and hasn't re-offended in over a decade then he's already been rehabilitated and classed as an ex-offender.

Maybe we'll decide it's unhealthy for any of our residents to be gang raped.
