There's definitely been contact between the two. Was told it broke off over a disagreement. Not to say it hasn't/couldn't have progressed though.

A guy is saying the same on SaintsWeb, to be fair I have been fairly convinced that he is coming here since Gaston weighed in on the subject. Our players seem to be fairly carefully primed on what they should and should not say, so for him to come out and basically support the transfer seemed odd to me.

Unless Cork or Davis are off (which I wouldn't want) I think that would be too many for the moment. Schneiderlin and Banega or Wanyama, with Cork, Davis and JWP as other options would be perfect for the moment.

Banega would be Davis's replacement. Remember, Mauricio liked to play with Davis, Cork & Schneiderlin against the tougher teams.

So you'd rather Davis and Wanyama than Banega and Wanyama?

    Umm why would it?

    Wanyama. Schneiderlin.

    Lallana. Banega. Ramirez

God that's a filthy midfield. Probably in the top 4 in the league if we got all the players.

That looks like a tasty lineup, but gaston on the left?

Obviously very excited but feel bad for cork if he gets pushed out. He has been a standout player this year.

He'd still play a lot, just not as a default starter. There are people who suggest we shouldn't sign anyone as Cork's "not done anything wrong" which is very flawed logic.

Cork would still get a lot of game time. More players = more options. With more options we can throw different strategies at every team! I would be suprised if Cork doesn't appear in at least 50% of our games next year. He is just so solid, and incredibly versatile, he will work his way back in. The additional signings will only spur him on further.

Whenever I go on holiday, I do a lot of research into whether the destination is going to suit me, be interesting, or just simply make me want to stay. I can honestly say that I have never looked forward to the day of returning home from holiday, and none more so than Crete. A fabulous island which suited me down to the ground. We first hired a convertible car for a day, then a 4x4, but finally we hired 350cc off-road motorcycles for most of the holiday and rode up into the mountains and thence to the other coasts. They were the ideal transport in an island simply made for motorcycling. Next time it's no contest - we go straight for the bikes and head for the mountains again.

We don't need to look at each new signing as a replacement for an existing favourite but an addition too the squad.
If we want to push for a top ten place AND A COUPLE OF CUP RUNS then we will need a deep squad in order to compete and not embarrass ourselves with a second string team being thumped by the likes of Leeds

Absolutely. Strength in depth in every position, and no make weights in the 25 man squad. That still leaves room for bringing through the likes of Targett and Chambers. Cork is good enough to play against the majority of the teams in the Prem, but he might have to settle for some substitution appearances, as will most of the squad.
