Hmm.... I remember that Pele chap was considered to have potential - not at the "top level", obviously, but OK for the World Cup in 58, 62, and 70. Eusebio was quite promising too, in 66.

Luckily we had Reuben Agboola and "Chicken George" Lawrence, in the 80s,to show that black players COULD move up to the next level:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Reuben Agboola, was excellent in his last season with us. I think he'd have gone onto even better things had he not followed Lawrie to the Mackems.

Reuben played sweeper for us if I recall and played in the side that were runners up in the old first division.

Is that Hmm.... a challenge to the historical accuracy of my statement?

If it is then reading this accurate article in the Grauniad may help persuade you that I am correct:

Oh God, chicken George. Utterly useless save for one game, I'm sure he must of been on performance improving drugs that night. In fact I would go as far to say I would rather have Hope Powell or some other random chick playing ahead of him. I quite liked the boy Agboola, although my mate who is a Sunderland supporter reckons he's one of the worst he's ever seen.

Personally I'd rather have had Hope Powell as manager than Paul Hart back in 2009. Paul Hart was an atrocious manager.

He'd be alright in Division 4, certainly better than Witless Guy

Ducky, Hart couldn't hold a candle to Guy. Guy had to cope with a complete cluster**** of a situation and pretty much no finances, a limited squad and the ability to only sign players on monthly contracts. While Hart too had to cope with a difficult situation but it wasn't quite so difficult and his team massively underperformed, especially when he was caretaker manager, considering the players he had. There were two good matches during this time, beating Man City in his first game as caretaker manager (but that was probably due to new manager syndrome) and Sunderland at home. His player selections and tactics were iffy at best, he also felt he need to play ultra-defensive when a man and a goal up with just minutes left, inviting huge amounts of pressure onto us which funnily enough led to us conceding. He also felt it was a good idea to play ultra-defensively at home to the bottom team of the premiership, ending up with a draw and not bringing on another striker until something like the 91st minute (because he had a petty fued with Theofanis Gekas and Basinsas, the latter pretty much tore Man City apart in Hart's first game). He also said that Matt Ritchie, who has been League 2 player of the season and I think League 1 player of the season, wouldn't make it as a footballer due to his size: that's his mindset. And this isn't even hindsight, I was vocal at the time saying Hart should not have been made full-time manager and was disapointed when he was as it was clear that a couple of good games aside, he wasn't a good manager and as it turns out, my view was vindicated.

As for Guy, our second half of the season form has been pretty good and we tore apart Sheffield United in our last home game. I don't think your criticism of him is based on any fact or reality but simply because he's the current Portsmouth manager.

Got a soft spot for Guy as he was at Newport when I used to go regularly.

While you speak a lot of sense. This is unfair. It was evident he didn't want a female manager due to the fact there are none good enough at present. However, it feels like you are individually trying to make everyone appear like a bigot. Women are fully capable of standing up for themselves, men with horrendus views on equality will not change in the near future.

It is fairly evident that the majority of people are pro equality. Every single person on this planet is different. Though many can be generalised - like what BirdsNest is saying, many do not conform to any stereotype at all. For me, equality means treating everyone as an individual, just because you are a female coach, does not make you good at the job in anyway at all - e.g Hope Powell. This all reminds me of John Barnes claiming every chairman in League football was racist for not hiring a black manager (him) when in reality it is because he is hopeless!

I don't think it is acceptable to take one statement made by someone, and them ask them different questions take the old answer and call them a bigot. It is almost like you are hunting.

    Spot on.

Most football fans and Chairmen would have anybody if they were the best person for the job. All this nonsense about black managers, what are they saying that a Chairman will have black players, black supporters, but not a black manager. Nonsense. People like barnes and Ince have been given jobs, but lost them because they're shiete, not because they're black.

Same as this Hope bird. If she could take saints into the Champions league, every single supporter, including me, would say bring her on. The simple fact of the matter is, she has neither the skills nor the experience to manage a professional men's club. Saying otherwise is just blokes trying to look all modern, it's nonsense.

Experience, perhaps as the Premier League is quite different to women's football but skills, how do you know she hasn't got the skills if no female managers have been given the opportunity to manage in men's professional (or even semi-professional)? I bet people said that about women linesmen too, but having been given the opportunity, they have shown that they do have the skills to be decent linesmen.

Also, following your outrageous claim that Paul Hart's not a terrible manager, look at his managerial record, it's appalling (except for when he's been academy director or youth manager):

What do you want? A women just given the job as a social experiment?

I've never said women shouldn't be lino's and refs. In fact I think they'll be quite good at it, they're used to nagging and moaning and telling blokes what to do. In actual fact they cant be any worse than the useless jobsworths around at the moment. It's just a question as to whether they'll be able to keep up with play. But if they had a body like Jessica Ennis' I'll be all for it.

Refs cover a lot of ground during a match and quite a bit of it going backwards. Have to be fit to do it, regardless of gender.

No but they should be given the job on merit but should definitely not be excluded from the opportunity to manage a man's club based on their gender.

Jeez, you are so unbelievably shallow when it comes to the opposite sex.

I was using that as a point against women can do what they like. No, an individual can.

Also if this is 'spot on' why do you refer to women as Chick's so much, speak in a derogatory tone and are openly sexist?! I'm not trying to look modern. I am modern, these are my views, you realise not every man has the opinion of a wealthy man pre 1900.. The future is far more important than our past, and I for one hope to be part of a revoloution that eliminates the gentlemans clubs that currently run our country, and perhaps more importantly eliminate the xenophobic, judgemental opinions of people who really have no idea and base their opinions on what people shouldn't do. Rather than treating people individually, maximising potential and allowing all people to be free to do as they like, provided they have the right personality and ambition.
