Bullshit is it. I obviously don't want Southampton to go down, but if they do, then the weight of my wallet will stop me caring about any self righteous sneering.

This, I will be devastated if we go down, and I'd prefer to lose my £20, but £4820 would make me a whole lot less miserable.

On another side note, Manny Mayuka really does add nothing to the team, Ward-Prowse would have been a better sub for Guly at that time.

Betting on your own team losing is such a sad act. I don't want to sound righteous but it's the same as temporarily swapping teams for mine.

I pretty much stopped betting on what I thought outcomes would be, long ago. So long as the odds are attractive, I basically now only ever bet on things which I don't want to happen.

Hampshire winning the t20 cup in 2010 cost me almost £60 in total. No problem with that though. I'd rather lose that £60 (over a three month period) with Hampshire winning something at the end of it, than just losing that £60 on outcomes which I honestly don't care for. And if I win (ie what I didn't want to happen, has happened), well at least I've got something (no matter how small) out of it.

And besides, the odds were 150/1! Given that we were far from safe at the time, they were ridiculous. Even my father put £10, and I have never known him to bet. Stupid odds.

you're corrupting your support for your team perhaps it is more like temporarily having two teams. I don't think less than a year long holiday away from the real world would be sufficient recompense, even then we could struggle to get promoted again.

I'm not corrupting anything, what are you talking about? I don't want Southampton to go down at all. I'd much rather lose my bet, so any corruption, split intention whatever rubbish you want to come out with is ridiculous. It's an insurance policy. I don't know if this is quite as silly as when you tried to convince us 9/11 was an inside job, but it's close.

Wrong again. He nearly set Lambert up, if Rickie had seen the possibility a second earlier it would have been a tap in.

There is a chance we will go down but betting for us to go down is just throwing away money for me. The betting companies make enough money as it is. We are much more likely to stay up.

We don't utilise him properly. Because we play Lambert with his back to goal so often, we do the same to the likes of JR and EM.

It doesn't work like that with them. The one time Clyne burst forward and gave Manny that ball in behind the back four he was far better.

Yes, but never ever 150/1 (or 240/1) more likely to stay up. I'd not put a bet on now at 16/1!!

Ha ha...it's like saying if you take out an life insurance policy on your wife, are you secretly hoping they are going to die - of course you're not!

edit : Well I hope not :emoticon-0112-wonde

FYI was invited corporate today, just met fonte, yoshida and boruc on the way out. Maya coulda played and will be back next week. They were all pretty pissed off but also v friendly and seemed delighted to see a Saints fan

I don't really bet on what's going to happen either, the only time I gave a bet is if I have any spare money and what I think is going to happen matches what I want to happen. I highly recommend this approach especially as southampton can be underrated by the bookies, I havenn't made any money betting on southampton tbh but if they come above west ham I will.

Don't you feel any guilt at letting money corrupt your feelings, I hate that feeling of inbetween emotions I would rather just be really happy we won or pissed off we didn't

Looking forward to lots more galleries of smiling players faces on the OS this week.

Smiles = points.

But none of us want Saints to get relegated, not in the slightest. Ok, maybe I shouldn't talk for Dan etc, but I think we'd all very happily lose our bet.

All winning our bet would mean, is that rather than just be completely gutted, we'd be completey gutted with, say, £1,500 in our back pocket.

At NO point during either the Sunderland game or the Stoke game, will I be wanting us to lose, not in any way. I don't want to win the bet. Hence why I say I was happy to lose that £60, because it meant Hampshire won the cup!

Let's think about this. For Wigan to get 5 points from 3 games I'd estimate is a 10-15% chance. Then for the other teams to all get above 39(considering our GD), maybe 30-40%. Chance of us getting 0 points from the last 2, let's call it 25%. So that's a 1.3% chance of relegation, or 80/1 if you prefer. Bookies will offer you 40 ish. If you want a bet, I'd go for Wigan at 1s.

Wrong again. He nearly set Lambert up, if Rickie had seen the possibility a second earlier it would have been a tap in.

The defender cut it out. Wasn't Lambert's problem. Mayuka up top and keeping Lambert on was a big mistake. Lambert offers nothing defensively. We went 4-4-1-1 with Rodriguez LM, Lambert behind Mayuka. Puncheon RM. We lost Rodriguez' pressing energy high up the field and took Guly and Lallana off who are our best two defensive wingers. I'd have been happy with Mayuka on if we'd taken Lambert off straight away. Played Rodriguez behind Mayuka and kept Lallana LM on with Puncheon RM.

He's feeble, played as striker with Lambert again and added absolutely bugger all, I can't even recall a game he has had any sort of positive impact in.
