You’re talking about individuals – which admittedly can hinder or enhance any movement.

Do you think individuals like Crow are the sole reason why people view unions so negatively or do you think it’s been more of a victory of the new right and its media?

Actually, I’d wager that most people who have that inherited view of unions as a cancer don`t know who Crow is; equally, they will not know of the past achievements of unions.

Cafe, not many read these posts because of their politics. I read the Daily Mail I don't subscribe to its political views. Just as I don't believe that every street has to have a gay couple, an Asian shopkeeper and at least one murder or major crash every year.
This thread will no doubt be blocked when the mods get busy now.

UNions are no where near as necessary now because of what unions and brave people did previously.
We have far less police brutality now
I was punched twice by teachers cos they were pissed off-none of my kids were.
When I was punished for actually arsing around I did not become bitter,I became a geezer. When I was punched by the gorrillas they became authority abusers.
My mate was stuck between two coppers(SYP) on back seat of car.Copper in front asks"why did you do it?"he opens his mouth to reply.Result-punch in the mouth>"Don"t talk back to me!"
"why did you do it"He keeps quiet.Result-punch in mouth"answer me when I ask you a question!"
This was in the good old days that some newspapers tint with rose colours. The early 70"s really did have more butterflies in summer and my name was Mary Poppins
Do you think coppers stopped taking bribes and fitting people up because they saw the light or because people took them to issue.
The established order ,if allowed, will virtually always become corrupt and self interested-be it far right or left. You want to be pushed around get on with it but don"t come up with bullshit justifications for putting up with it or decry others who want to go to the party every bit as much as you do but choose to make a stand.
I am trying to avoid using a certain word which would cause offence.
    Supporting the team!Yeh right!!!!

Melu I am not being political out of context and I don"t get the gist of what I think you are implying I was advocating. If you want them to block and censor just ask them to do it.I am not advocating left wing or right wing views I am trying to explain my views which are different to some of those previously expressed. It is a forum Melu.Just as you previously TOLD everyone what a supporter is.I was unaware at the time of your position to be able to give us the complete and final definition of anything.

I think unions now occupy a very small fraction of media and public attention-span compared to the 60s-70s-80s.

They are the Leeds United of politics ( no offence intended)

“I think unions now occupy a very small fraction of media and public attention-span compared to the 60s-70s-80s.”

Agreed. However, there are reasons for this.

“They are the Leeds United of politics ( no offence intended)”

Agreed – particularly from a populist perspective (which is ironic).

But I’d suggest this perception is borne from purpose and ignorance.

I agree city agro.I have no political axe to grind with any party. The bosses and unions and police have all abused power in their time.It is standing up to percieved abuse (by trouble causers or the upholders of the law) which should be challenged.I do not believe the terraces or town centres could police themselves.I never want to see another Bradford or Ibrox. It does not mean though that we cannot move towards safe standing and other well thought out safe ways of improving match atmosphere so we get back to the good old days without the genuine **** that went along with it.

When all seater grounds came in, prices were jacked up something chronic 'to pay for it all'.

But they never came down again did they?

One seated person takes up the space of two standing ones (allegedly)

That's why this seating **** will never go away- because it suits the clubs to have 'premium' prices.

I thought I read that you can turn 2 seats into 3 safe standing areas.Increased crowds of cheap standing singers will increase atmosphere for everyone and hopefully more people in the seats.I think german crowd figures are really good with the standing areas but do not know the figures.

I don't think we need rules to tell us how to behave, but there will always be the small minority who go OTT and the stewards/police should deal with them.. Turkish football remains my favourite for atmosphere..

A doc about the Izmir derby where I used to live.. these clubs are like us - second division with some brief spells in the top league.. this derby has the world record for the highest attendance outside a top division - 80,000.. I lived 3 years in Goztepe..

Agree with what you say with ^^^^^ this. Football has become a game for the prawn sandwiches sadly over the past few years. Its not good enough.
The passion of the fans is being aroded bit by bit. In saying that smoke bombs dont improve anythings at all.

Man breaks law and gets punished thread becomes some bird brained rant by solipsistic morons.

What concerns me is where man didn't break law and got arrested anyway! To be arrested because you might break the law is surely a breach of human rights. Its like issuing every driver with a fine and points becUse they may speed. Or forcing football fans to attend a game in a bubble because they might cause trouble. And yet everyone ignored it And got up in arms because they punished someone who broke the rules!
