Congratulations to Stevie, I'm sure he'll do a top job for England just as he does for us.

About time! I was beginning to wonder how many more CB's Roy Hodgson rated higher than him. A well deserved call up.

Rio Ferdinand still maintains he's number 1 choice.

Am delighted for him because I know he will be very proud, and it is well deserved.

From a fan's point of view though, we need him exposed to injury like we need a hole in the head.

    Fingers crossed.

Not to sound cynical, but I bet Woy won't take him off the bench

Well done but I'm completely against it. Purely selfish, its bad for us. We have managed him carefully up until Colo's injury when they had no choice but to be put some extra strain on his body. Now he'll have more and I worry his fragility may rear its head. In all honesty that would be a disaster for Newcastle as we'd be back to Willo at a crucial stage.

Others were calling for it previously saying he was more deserving than others but for me with B&W specs off, the likes of him and Dawson need to prove their fitness over a longer period as Rio had to. I could only have a chuckle when he picked Dawson and he then pulled out injured. England never learn. To be fair they are down to the bare bones now though so they probably don't have any choice than to look to the likes of Dawson and Saylor. Funnily enough if those two could stay fit, I think they'd be a good combo.

All of the above sentiments sum up my feelings on this. Really delighted for him, but also terrified that he will pick up a knock and the repercussions that would have for the club and the remainder of the season.
I know it's selfish, but l really hope he doesn't play.
    Sorry Stevie x

    Very pleased indeed for him.
Hope he doesn't get injured as we don't have a great track record of England players remaining injury free

Really pleased for Steve, doubtlessly deserved and although I don't understand it he seems to really see it as an honor still.

However it has come about under the wrong circumstances, handled poorly and it sadly seems a begrudgingly token gesture.

Can't see him playing (which I prefer) BUT given the initial choice I'd of taken Steve over Rio Ferdinand every time anyway...

Why though? Ferdinand has been the best defender in England this season bar none, and has an outstanding pedigree and experience. Don't get me wrong, last season he was gash and looked finished. This season, particularly lately, as much as I dislike plug he has been fantastic.

People seem to forget that Taylor has paid his dues, representing his country at U15, U16, U17 and U21 levels. This opportunity will mean a lot to him, so he will have a competitive edge.

I would love to see him play against San Marino...

Hell, I could play against that lot! <cool>

Just on the Rio Ferdinand thing, if he's not able to join up with England because of his training regime, when will he be able to?

Once he's secured his new deal? :emoticon-0102-bigsm
