Why though? Ferdinand has been the best defender in England this season bar none, and has an outstanding pedigree and experience. Don't get me wrong, last season he was gash and looked finished. This season, particularly lately, as much as I dislike plug he has been fantastic.
I think he's had his time and I think we've got a few guys never mind Stevie Taylor that would come in and do just as well, without the baggage.
By that I mean the farcical situation Hodgson and the FA have put themselves in by calling him back in. Look at the avoidable controversy it has stoked up, for what?
I'm not saying he's not a qualified defender with masses of experience but with respect I think that's overstated given the opposition we face for qualification.
It's pretty nailed on Rio wouldn't go to (ahem) Rio, so let's go forward now rather than go back.
Speaking as an NUFC fan, would I have Taylor for Newcastle over Rio Ferdinand? Yes, yeah I would. It's likely Roy would too had Steven Taylor played under him at West Brom.
Ultimately it comes down to opinion and the player you like best.
Saying that I'd rather Stevie kept out of it and stayed fit for NUFC!
