In 1946 Harold Needler wanted to rename our club Kingston Upon Hull City AFC, playing in blue and orange with white shorts with a badge of the city's three crowns. In fact the programme for the first game at Boothferry Park showed a sketch of a player in such a kit. Only a major fuss prevented this. Imagine if it had gone ahead - " give us a K..." would have taken forever and "Come on you Crowns" hardly has a ring about it.

I really like the three crowns logo and if I'm really honest, I preferred our original blue kit too.

personally i think our club colours are ugly , Black and amber stripes doesn't look good on the eye IMO.

Its not even as though its our original colours . If it was up to me id drop most of the amber in the kit and make it mostly black with either amber pinstripes , a sash or a single vertical line .

Black and amber stripes look ugly?

It was certainly our first kit in the Football League.

Please tell me your post was a joke.

This kit looks brilliant

Can you imagine our team without Black & Amber? Scary thought, but if you own the club, have invested millions I guess you call the shots.

Yeah, we did that once... got promoted to the PL! Was my favourite kit without the black stripes as well.

And why do you think our nickname is The Tigers? Because of the black and amber striped kit. If we hd always worn plain shirts we would never have had that nickname.

No, if we could have just kept the club the same I think plenty would have been opposed to the plans, but our historical debt created by previous owners meant that we cannot exist as a Championship club with our debts. If you say go into Admin (like our mates the jacks) then you've obviously never been ripped off by a company going into admin. You feel robbed because basically you have been.

We obviously want our club to be successful. Would Portsmouth rather be in the Championship or PL playing in a different colour strip? Our situation is everybit as dire as theirs without VT or someone elses money. Until we have a viable option don't judge the fans too harshly who have accepted the shirt change as the lesser of 2 evils.

You're still spending boss... If your owner pulled out now you'd be more ****ed than your were before. Your current owner won't be there forever... then what? Should be consolidating while you can, not pushing for the premier league by spending megabucks. You'll spend more than ever there and could well end up doing what we did.

The one immediately before WW2 and immediately after WW2, when we first moved into Boothferry Park and became a proper club(a fact I've just completely made up to justify my preference for that kit).

The only reason for the blue kit immediately after the war was that certain dyes were still not being made a available for non essential things like football kits.
The blue one with the crowns on was used mid 1930's. it is on this hilarious news clip, which was surely the inspiration for the Harry Enfield sketch featuring old players against modern ones. Worth watching, apart from the hilarity, for a glimpse of the ld Anlaby Road ground.

Brilliant.

"Into the net" - a banner, surely.

Pretty much covered in my post above - I wouldnt watch us because it wouldnt be us. I might as well be watching any team.

And as far as I remember we've been black and amber right from our 2nd ever season save for a couple of weird short-lived arberations over 60 years ago. And our badge has always had a tiger theme - hasnt it? It's not the same to change your badge's style rather than the whole content cos you dont like the colour.

We never had a badge on the shirt, apart from a season in a blue kit with 3 crowns on it in the 1930s until the 1940s after RaichCarter's arrival.
