With a 20 year old Wilfried Zaha seemingly going to Manchester United for £15m, do we think £10m is lower than what a 20 year old Matej Vydra should get?

Valutaions depend a lot on remaining term of the contract as well as perceived quality and prospect of the player as the 'asset' of the players registration diminishes over the term.

I am not sure how long Zaha had left on his contract, but if Vydra will have only one year left it will lower his value. For that reason I really hope we do sign him on a new longer term contract, and then with another successful year his value will increase.

He signed a 5 year contract last year, so it would have been 4 years left, this is why we want a 5 year deal with Vydra

Agreed. Zaha with 4+ years contract remaining is worth more than Vydra with just over a year left on his contract irrespective of whether we feel Vydra is better or comparable in ability, as part of the valuation is the asset value of the contract written down over its term.

So signing a new contract will boost his value, I really hope we can do that.

We are in an interesting position where we want our players to do well on behalf of our club, but we know that when they do well they will become targets for other clubs! We have to accept that, these players if they do well will become attractive, so we want to ensure we get the best prices we can.

Zaha also comes with the 'England-premium' that comes with so many English players - Think the likes of Henderson, Downing, Carroll etc, who you pay over the odds just because they are English!

Zaha cost less than Downing or Henderson <yikes>

I think those players are more a case of Liverpool being idiots, than of the 'England premium'.

Personally i think Downing is overpriced at the amount of change i have in my pocket (£7.32 by the way).

Ok, probably a bad idea using just Liverpool players.. especially the Downing deal. I would suggest Zaha is similar to the Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain deals (similar to Carroll and Henderson) - They're playing for potential, and English-Potential seems to add an extra £5-10m on top of what they are probably worth - or Carroll's case, about £30m too much!

In the actual paper's report on the Spain trip, Zola said:

"The whole squad couldn't travel so the ones who stayed at home were the injured players or the ones who would not be in the squad on Saturday."

"Plus there were players who may have the possibility of leaving in the transfer window so we needed to keep them in England."

(the ones who stayed included Dickinson, Iwelumo, Buaben, Whichelow, Mingoia and Jenkins)

Interesting Weimann rumour;) but the rumour about buying anyone from ICT now a days is let's just say silly;)

Bit of Watford news.

The Hornets have an eye on Billy Mackay at ICT and will make their move if they get promoted.

Also, they are aware that Weimann at Villa only has 18 months on his contract and if Udinese, Watford's parent club, buys him, no compensation is due. The player will then immediately transfer out to the Hornets.
